Frank Dee Gist, 78, of Spiro died Monday, Oct. 24,
2011. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at
Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro. Burial will be in
Cowlington Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-
Martin Funeral Home.

Terry Lee Brown, 41, of Cameron died Saturday, Oct.
22, 2011, in Cameron. Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 27, at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola under the
direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.

Imogene Webb Garrett, 96, passed away
Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. at her residence in
Hawley, Texas. Graveside services will be
held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, at Spiro
City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7
p.m. Thursday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home, Abilene, Texas.
Imogene was born Aug. 20, 1915, in
Spiro to Lee and Nanna Webb. She grew
up in Webb Town and graduated from Spiro High School
where she was the high scorer on the basketball team.
Imogene graduated from college in Durant. She interviewed
with Ulyss Garrett for a teaching position. She got

Balloonfest brings in visitors and dollars

Another Balloonfest has
come and gone and the
Poteau Chamber of
Commerce is still reeling
from the more than 20,000
attendees of this year's festival.
According to Poteau
Chamber President, Karen
Wages, the first year the
Chamber has organized the
event was a huge success.
They set goals for sponsorship
that were met and the
arm band sales were above
and beyond all they had
imagined.
On Friday, the Chamber
was hectic with pre-sales
causing them to open a virtual
drive through to meet the
demand of the more than
3,000 armbands they sold
and over $7,000 in concert

Poteau Bandit League teams go 2-1 against Panama

The Poteau Bandit League teams won two games and lost one against Panama Saturday afternoon at Costner Stadium.
The fifth-grade team posted a 22-0 win over Panama, while the fourth-graders were victorious by a score of 42-0.
Panama took the third-grade contest 7-0, while there was not a sixth-grade contest.
In the fifth-grade game, Josh Smith scored on a 70-yard run, while Clay Cross took it in from four yards out. Cross also threw a TD pass, a 67-yard strike to Atticus Pate. Bryce Palmer was 2-for-3 on two-point conversions.

Thursday night's Pocola football game on the road against the Stigler Panthers junior varsity is canceled because the Panthers want to keep all their players healthy for Friday night's big District 3A-8 contest at home against the Valliant Bulldogs.
Thus, the Indians will be off this week.

The Oklahoma Area 10 Special Olympics Bowling Competition will take place Thursday at Strike-A-Lot in Poteau.
The singles competition will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the doubles competition at 12:30 p.m. There will be close to 150 participants in the event.
