For the fourth straight baseball season, dating back to the 2010 spring season, the Wister Wildcats baseball team has ended them at the same place — the state tournament.
Last spring, the ’Cats made third time the charm as they won the Class 2A State Tournament. Now, they will look to win the Class A Fall State Tournament this weekend.
First up for the Wildcats (21-3) is the Amber-Pocasset Panthers at 5 p.m. today at Edmond Memorial High School in the state quarterfinals.
The Spiro Bulldogs not only snapped their three-game losing streak last week in a 34-19 win over the Eufaula Ironheads last Friday night at McClain Stadium, but they also may have salvaged their season.
But to keep their postseason hopes alive, the ’Dogs (2-3 overall, 1-1 in District 3A-8 play) will need to keep the momentum going when they hit the road for a 7:30 p.m. Friday game against the Hugo Buffaloes (1-4, 0-2) — who lost last week's 3A-8 contest 21-0 to Atoka.
