A group of concerned
citizens from Bokoshe
filed a class action lawsuit
in LeFlore County
District Court against
AES Shady Point and
more than 20 other defendants
regarding what they
claim are toxins from fly
ash. The suit is demanding
a jury trial as well as
compensatory and punitive
damages.
The suit was filed on
October 6 by Clark O.
Brewster, of Tulsa; Harlan
E. Hentges, of Edmond
and J. Randall Miller of
Tulsa on behalf of six
named plaintiffs. Those
named as plaintiffs in the
suit are William Reese,
Diane Reese, Herman
“Dub” Tolbert, Tim
Tanksley, Susan Holmes
A movement toward the preservation and restoration of
historic downtown districts that has been ever increasing
for more than 30 years, reached a landmark moment in
Oklahoma history as Governor Mary Fallin declared
October 16-22 “Main Street Week”.
Poteau Main Street Matters, which is a part of the
Oklahoma Main Street Program, is one of many communities
throughout the state that are glad to see the proclamation
by Fallin. Poteau Main Street (Dewey Avenue) will
be decorated with flowers throughout the week to help
signify the beauty and life of the downtown district.

SALLISAW — The Poteau Pirates played the Sallisaw Black Diamonds just about as close as they could in the first half of Thursday night's District 4A-4 game Perry F. Lattimore Stadium. They allowed Sallisaw a very quick touchdown to begin the game, but then held the Diamonds scoreless for the rest of the first half with the exception of a highly debatable 30-yard field goal, which the Pirates queried.
TALIHINA — Heavener Coach John Thompson said the key for his Wolves to pull off the upset in Friday night's District 2A-6 game against the Talihina Golden Tigers at Doc Robinson Stadium was to score first — and have a positive start to the game. He got his wish.
The Wolves took advantage of a turnover and scored on their first two possessions of the contest to pull off the upset over the Golden Tigers by a score of 28-13.
ARKOMA — The Arkoma Mustangs took another step in their quest for a District C-4 championship Friday night remaining undefeated and mercy ruling the Midway Chargers 86-36 at home.
SPIRO — On one hand, Friday night's District 3A-8 game between the Seminole Chieftains and the Spiro Bulldogs at McClain Stadium probably should have been more lopsided than it was.
Seminole is a good passing team, and it seemed like Spiro was running a zero coverage on the back end of its defense. At least three times, a Chieftan was running free and simply let the ball fall through their hands.
VIAN — The Vian Wolverines kept the Panama Razorbacks winless as they posted a 57-7 victory Friday night in a District 2A-6 contest.
HARTSHORNE — The Hartshorne Miners struck late in the game to pull out a 24-19 victory over the Pocola Indians in a District 2A-6 contest Friday night.
Trailing late in the fourth quarter, the Miners (6-1, 3-0 in district play) scored to snatch the win away from the Indians (4-3, 1-3).
The Heavener High School cross country teams will begin their postseason this afternoon as they will run in the Class 3A Regional Meet at noon in Coweta.
The top seven teams will automatically qualify all their runners to next weekend's Class 3A State Meet at Shawnee's Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center. After those runners are taken out of the mix, the next highest seven boy and girl runners who aren't on the top seven teams will also make state as individuals.
