Two young girls missing from Talihina have been found

UPDATE: Authorities in Latimer county have announced that both girls were located and safe around 6 p.m.

Tracy Lake of Talihina awoke this morning just a little after 5 a.m. She got up like every morning and went to make coffee. She then went to wake up her daughter, Mercedes, 14, and her neice Rheil-lee, 13, but the girls were no where to be found. That's when she noticed that her door was half open.
It was first believed that the two girls snuck out during the night to hang out with friends, but none of their friends have seen them.

Poteau softball player makes All-State

Just like last fall, the Poteau Lady Pirates softball team has an All-Stater.
One year after Shelby Culver made the Large East All-State Team, Briley Benson made the 2011-12 Large East team.
The Poteau senior will play in the Oklahoma Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Game next June at the University of Oklahoma Softball Complex in Norman.

Strong second half sends Heavener Wolves past Pocola Indians into playoffs

HEAVENER — Famous author Charles Dickens wrote the novel, “A Tale of Two Cities.” Had he been at Harvey Stadium Friday night, he might have penned a story entitled, “A Tale of Two Halves.”
After the homestanding Heavener Wolves looked lifeless in the opening half, they got things going in the second half and downed the Pocola Indians 21-12 in a District 2A-6 contest.

Muldrow Bulldogs bite Poteau Pirates

MULDROW — What started out on the fields of Catoosa, Tahlequah, Poteau and Idabel gave the Poteau Pirate fans the sense that their new-found no huddle offense was going to bring the Pirates back to prominence in Class 4A.
But somewhere along the way, they ran up against teams that could also score points in bunches. Poteau's 2011 campaign ended on a field in Muldrow with their hopes and dreams being an afterthought.

Arkoma ends regular season with rout of Claremore Christian; Mustangs prepare for home playoff game next week against Covington-Douglas

CLAREMORE — Although the Arkoma Mustangs had a slow start to Friday night's District C-4 and regular-season finale against Claremore Christian, they ended up winning by mercy rule.
The Mustangs routed Claremore Christian 60-12 in the third quarter. Arkoma (9-1, 6-1 in district play) will entertain the third-place team from District C-3, Covington-Douglas (the only team to defeat District C-4 champion Webbers Falls this season) at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Mustang Field.

Maud wins battle of Tigers with Bokoshe

BOKOSHE — In a battle of Tigers, this one went to the visitors from Maud in a 50-0 mercy-rule win over Bokoshe Friday night.

Tulsa NOAH handles Panama in season finale

BROKEN ARROW — In the regular season finale for the Panama Razorbacks, they suffered a 60-0 loss to Tulsa NOAH (Tulsa Home School) Friday night.

Stigler hands Spiro season-ending defeat

STIGLER — The Spiro Bulldogs were needing some help to make it into the playoffs besides beating the Stigler Panthers in Friday night's District 3A-8 contest.
Spiro needed either Valliant or Idabel to lose its game and the ‘Dogs to beat the Panthers to make the playoffs. It did not happen.
Stigler nipped Spiro 34-27 to improve to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in district play as it prepares for the Class 3A playoffs.

No. 4 Vian too much for Talihina

VIAN — Last year, the Talihina Golden Tigers defeated the Vian Wolverines 34-25 at Doc Robinson Stadium to win the District 2A-6 title. In 2011, things were a little different.
The Wolverines, ranked fourth in Class 2A, handled the Golden Tigers on their home turf 56-6 to cap a perfect regular season — and head into the playoffs as the district champion.

Carl Albert Vikings ready for 2011-12 basketball season

The Carl Albert State College Vikings will began a new tradition, as they will open their 2011-12 basketball season in the Oklahoma-Texas Shootout at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
In their first game, they will play Clarendon, Texas, at 4 p.m. this afternoon. In their second game, they will play Howard, Texas, which is preseason ranked eighth in the NJCAA Poll, at 4 p.m. Sunday.
