Fantasy Forest auction tonight

The LeFlore County Historical Society will have their Fantasy Forest unveiling and auction tonight at 5:30 at the Lowery Hotel. Businesses decorated the trees and the proceeds from their sale will benefit the continued reconstruction of the hotel.

CASC Vikings win OT thriller over Clarendon to split games at Thanksgiving Classic

PLANO, Texas - Clutch free-throw shooting by the Carl Albert State College Vikings proved to be the difference in their 82-78 overtime win over Clarendon, Texas on Saturday afternoon at the Thanksgiving Classic at Collin County Junior College.
In the first game of the Thanksgiving Classic Friday afternoon, the Vikings lost 74-71 to New Mexico Military.
The Vikings will return to Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play tonight when they travel to Warner to take on the Connors State College Cowboys at 8 p.m.

Carl Albert women suffer losses in Marcus Harvey Classic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It was a rough Thanksgiving weekend for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings basketball team at the Marcus Harvey Classic.
The Lady Vikings lost 65-58 Saturday morning to Livin’ the Dream, after falling 73-70 to Penn Valley College on Friday.
The Lady Vikings will return to Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play tonight as they will travel to Warner to face the Connors State College Cowgirls at 6 p.m.

After a break, it’s basketball hot and heavy

I must say I enjoyed my little down time last week with no high school athletics happening. But as they say, “All good things must end.”
Now that Thanksgiving Break is over, high school basketball will get going hot and heavy from now until the Christmas Break.
Poteau, Arkoma, Pocola and Talihina will begin their seasons tonight, while Heavener, Panama and Spiro will begin their seasons later this week.
So, let the hoop-la begin.

Bingley and the Browns scheduled for court today

Jeffery Dale Bingley, who was charged with child sexual abuse and possession of child pornography in January 2010, is scheduled to appear in district court this afternoon on a motion to suppress filed by Defense Attorney Gary Buckles.
On the heals of the motion, Buckles also filed a second motion to require the state, represented by Assistant District Attorney Margaret Nicholson, to further analyze evidence in the case against his client.
Bingley is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 for the motion to suppress.

Pocola takes a recess

The Pocola Board of trustees held a special meeting tonight to hire for two vancancies within the city. After more than two hours behind closed doors in executive session the trustees decided to take a recess until next Tuesday night before making any decisions regarding a new police chief and a new street department employee.

Bill “Hoss” Purcell of Cameron died at his home on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011. Bill married Carolyn Blair on June 10, 2006, in Poteau. He was a member of the James V. Callan Dalite Lodge in Irving, Texas, and a member of the McAlester Masonic Lodge. Bill received his 32nd degree at the McAlester Lodge. Bill was a self-employed truck driver with an attitude and sense of humor.
Bill was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Robin Phillips, and two sisters, Susan Counts and Louise Rose.
