PKMS 8th-grade boys win own tournament title

The Pansy Kidd Middle School eighth-grade Raiders won their own tournament with a 34-21 win over Sallisaw on Thursday.
One other LeFlore County team, the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, lost their title game by a score of 50-43 to Roland.
The Wister Wildcats won the consolation championship with a 47-44 victory over the Spiro Bulldogs, while Pocola Indians defeated the PKMS combined seventh-eighth grade Raiders 30-19 to win seventh place.

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates basketball team gave Coach Scott Nelke the best birthday present possible on Thursday, a victory.
The Pirates used a late rally to down the Westfork (Ark.) Tigers 47-44 in the first day of the H.B. Stewart Classic.
Spiro 73, Stigler 47: In Stigler, the Bulldogs (3-0) jumped out to a 26-9 lead after one period to take control of the game.
Stilwell 42, Heavener 18: In Hilldale Tournament in Muskogee, the Wolves (0-2) fell behind Class 4A's 14th-ranked Indians 14-8 after one period and trailed the whole game.

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Westark (Ark.) Lady Tigers held the Poteau Lady Pirates to single digits in each of the final three periods en route to a 63-37 win Thursday afternoon in the H.B. Stewart Classic.
Stilwell 49, Heavener 35: At Hilldale Tournament in Muskogee, the Lady Wolves (0-2) fell behind 17-8 after one period and had to play catch up all game long.

Lady Vikings shock Murray State, but MSC Aggies win on buzzer beater

Behind solid defense and 50-percent shooting from the field in the second half, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings won 74-64 over the Murray State College Lady Aggies Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Despite holding a nine-point halftime lead, the Vikings were unable to overcome a slow start in in the second half in their 62-60 loss to the Murray State College Aggies in the second game — which was decided by a buzzer-beating shot.

Arkoma girls rally to down County Line in Arkoma Classic, but Mustangs fall

ARKOMA — In a thrilling comeback victory, the Arkoma Lady Mustangs rallied from a 12-point, second-quarter deficit to down the County Line (Ark.) Lady Indians 57-54 Thursday night in the Arkoma Classic.
However, the Mustangs could not make it a sweep for Arkoma as the County Line Indians prevailed 50-15.
After taking Friday off, the Arkoma teams will return to action in their own event today against Mansfield, Ark., the girls will play at 5 p.m., followed by the boys at 6:30 p.m.

The Poteau Tip-In Club will have a tailgate party before Tuesday's Poteau High School basketball teams' home openers against Spiro at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The tailgate party will have hamburger baskets for $5, sponsored by Bud’s Country Junction, JoB Construction Company, Inc. and The Community State Bank.

Howe girls upset in Choctaw Nation Tournament, but Talihina girls, Howe, Wister boys post opening-round wins

TALIHINA — There were a couple of shockers on the opening day of the Choctaw Nation Tournament at Ray Henson Gymnasium Thursday — one of which involved a LeFlore County school.
The Howe Lady Lions suffered a 45-44 upset loss to the Rattan Lady Rams, while the Sallisaw-Central boys upset the Antlers Bearcats 53-46.

Leflore, Whitesboro boys post victories in EOSC Tournament, but girls' teams lose

WILBURTON — The Leflore Savages and the Whitesboro Bulldogs each posted victories on the final day of pool play action at the Eastern Oklahoma State College Tournament on Thursday.
The Savages defeated Lakewood Christian 48-38 at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse, while Whitesboro handled McCurtain 69-65 in a battle of Bulldogs at Wilburton High School.
Both boys teams will play for championships today.
The Savages will play Cameron at 6:30 p.m. tonight at EOSC for the title of the Gold Tournament.
The Bulldogs will play Red Oak at 9:10 p.m. tonight for the Blue Tournament title.
