OKLAHOMA CITY — The 76th Annual Ramada All-College Basketball Classic was Saturday night at the newly renovated Chesapeake Energy Arena. The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University teams participated in this year’s event.
OU is off to a great start under first-year Coach Lon Kruger, and they continued their winning ways with a hard-fought 79-74 victory over the Houston Cougars in the opening game.
The Sooners (8-1) are off to their best start since the 2008-09 season. Kruger’s team is playing great defense and getting balanced scoring from several players this season.
McALESTER — The Christmas Break did not begin on a high note for the Poteau High School basketball teams Saturday at Brumley Gym.
The Lady Pirates fought valiantly, but fell short in a 57-49 loss to the McAlester Lady Buffaloes.
The Buffaloes made it a sweep for the locals as they defeated the Pirates 50-40.
ROGERS, Ark. — The Poteau Youth Wrestling Club had several participants and several placers at last weekend's Rumble in Rogers.

Several athletes came in third place in the tournament — Jarrett Lilley, Ross Johnson, Jarrod Vineyard, Remington Reed, Gavin Morgan, Charles Graham, Kadin Repass and Drexton Brown.
Dakota James and Dax Collins were fourth.

Coach Jim Henderson was a man who loved football, and all kinds of sporting events. He knew that I love trivia, and he was always asking me some form of trivia. One question he asked me was, “What was the name of General Ulysses S. Grant's horse?” Everyone said, Cincinnati.
Henderson was an expert on boxing trivia, also. But the area in which he thrived was football trivia.
He asked me the question I had in my column last week — Can you name the state that has at least three colleges which have won national championships besides Florida?
In Saturday's edition, Mark Goines' "Hooked on Fishin'" Column had the wrong times for his show on his new network listed.
The correct times will be 5:30 a.m. Saturdays and 6:30 a.m. Sundays on KFSM Channel 5.
