Today's Games
Kingfisher ’Jackets vs. Tushka Tigers, 4 p.m.
Weatherford Red vs. Shawnee Muck Dogs, 6 p.m.
Durant Rangers vs. Holdenville Outlaws, 8 p.m.
The 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament run for the Poteau Pirates came to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Weatherford Red scored a run in the last inning to down the host team 10-9 at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Pirates opened tournament play Tuesday night by losing 11-3 to the Tushka Tigers.
The Red (41-7) will play the loser of Wednesday night's last game of the night between the Durant Rangers and the Shawnee Muck Dogs in another elimination game at 6 p.m. tonight.
The Kingfisher ’Jackets let a 4-0 lead evaporate in Tuesday's opening-round 5-4, seven-inning loss to the Shawnee Muck Dogs to begin the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The ’Jackets made sure another lead didn't evaporate on Wednesday afternoon — but it wasn't easy.
Kingfisher had a 10-2 lead after three innings, but had to hang on for dear life to defeat the Elk City Brown Sox 11-8 to stay alive in the tournament.
The Holdenville Outlaws find themselves just a win away from playing for the championship of the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament.
The Outlaws used a 14-hit offensive evening to down the Tushka Tigers 11-1 in a five-inning, run-rule contest Wednesday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Outlaws (48-6) will play at 8 p.m. tonight against the winner of Wednesday night's late game between the Durant Rangers and the Shawnee Muck Dogs for the right to play in Saturday night's state title game at 6 p.m.
McLOUD — The Spiro Blasters had to wait an extra day to get their first game in the 2011 OK Kids Preps State Tournament played, as their opener against McLoud was rained out Tuesday.
But the delay did not bother them as the Blasters routed the host team 15-3 Wednesday afternoon. The Blasters were slated to play again Wednesday night in a winner's-bracket semifinal.
Spiro used the long ball, four of them to be precise, to get them the run-rule victory. Colton Gamble hit two homers, while Brennan Dooly and Jace Pitchford each homered once.
I am just about finished with summer baseball. My midget team finished second to a good Durant team which is now battling at the state tournament right here in Poteau.
My prep team won their first game at its state tournament Tuesday in McLoud and were scheduled to play Chandler Wednesday night. The other three games were rained out Tuesday in McLoud, so there were games all day Wednesday and ours was scheduled to be the last. I wrote this before we played, so I don’t know how it turned out.
