Evelyn R. Goletto, 53, of Heavener died
Saturday, July 23, 2011, at her home.
Evelyn was born Jan. 31, 1958, in
Anderson, Ind., to Darrell and Ruby
(Milligan) Chinn. Evelyn graduated with
honors from the University of Arkansas at
Fort Smith with a BBA in accounting. She
worked as a revenue officer for the Internal
Revenue Service.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell
Chinn and Ruby Stephens.
Evelyn is survived by two sons, Craig Goletto of
Heavener and Larry Goletto of Texas; a brother, Winston
Johnson and his wife Deborah of Howe; mother-in-law,
After several attempts at making the outlook on Cavanal Hill a place for families and tourist to enjoy Poteau’s claim to fame, another set back has occurred causing once again a financial loss for the Cavanal Committee and those who enjoy the facilities located on the top of the hill.
Vandal’s stuck the newly constructed pavilion over the weekend causing damages estimated in excess of $5,000.

The Wolf Ridge Golf Club of Poteau would like to
invite golfers to participate in their two man scramble
golf tournament to benefit a young woman in need of
surgery to remove a tumor.
Whitney Spangler, 22, of Poteau, was diagnosed with
a craniopharyngioma tumor in March 2010 and under
went a right frontal craniotomy to remove the tumor.
She was also treated with radioactive materials to stop
the growth of the tumor. That surgery was a success
and it allowed Whitney to return to her job at the Dennis
Bost State Farm Insurance Agency and to return to
Mary Sue Bacon, 103, of Talihina
died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the
Talihina Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday,
July 24, at the Talihina Church of
Christ with Phillip Smith officiating.
Burial will be at the Old Talihina
Cemetery under the direction of
Talihina Funeral Home.
Billy Ray Davis, 50, of Talihina
died Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
Graveside services will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at the
Sardis Cemetery with Dennis McClard
officiating. Burial will follow under
the direction of Talihina Funeral
Home.
Word has been received of the
death of Dorothy Jean Kirkley Palmer,
who was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Howe
to Lee and Eula Kirkley.
She was a 1943 graduate of Poteau
High School. In 1944 she married the
love of her life, James Palmer.
Because James was a career Marine,
they most often lived in Oceanside,
Callif., where Jim was stationed in
nearby Camp Pendleton. When her
husband was away during WWII, the
Korean War, and during peacetime
deployments in the Cold War Era, she
would make her home in Poteau and
work at Poteau Food Market.

There are currently, and will be more, activities going on at Wolf Ridge Golf Club.
Every Monday is Church League play, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Women's League takes place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, followed by the Men's League at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
Prior to Men's League play, every Wednesday for $25 plus tax golfers can play 18 holes and rent golf carts.
In September, two special golf tournaments will take place. The Carl Albert Coaches Classic will be Sept. 19.
WILBURTON — Eastern Oklahoma State College has named Craig Price as the new coach of Mountaineer Baseball. Price, who has spent four seasons as the Wilburton community college’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, will take over the position vacated by Aric Thomas, who left earlier this month to take an assistant coaching job with the University of Oklahoma — which is where Thomas played collegiate baseball.
