Bobbie R. Hammons

Bobbie R. Hammons, 87, of Bokoshe
died Aug. 12, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark. She
was born Sept, 6, 1923, in Kinta to John
Johnson and Dora Anna (Griffith) Adams.
She was a retired factory worker. Bobbie
Adams married Sewell C. Hammons on
December 20, 1941, in Kinta. She was a
faithful member of the First Baptist Church
of Bokoshe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved
husband; a granddaughter, Amy Rachelle Hammons; a
brother, Floyd Box; and two sisters, Pauline Trahern and
Melvina Heather.
Surviving her are three sons and daughters-in-law,

Fire Association gets grant

The LeFlore County Fire
Fighters Association
(LCFA) has received a grant
from Homeland Securities
Assistance to Firefighters
Grant program (AFG). In a
Regional grant submitted
by host Post Mountain Fire
Department, the LCFA was
granted $159,000 to purchase
414 handheld and 116
mobile radios. Each department
will receive 15 handhelds
and 4 mobiles with
the host receiving 9 handhelds
. All 28 fire departments
in LeFlore county
agreed to be a part of the
grant which was submitted
in May of 2010. Each fire
department had to submit
run reports, number of firefighters,

D & D Counseling of Poteau won the business rodeo decorating contest sponsored by Poteau Daily News and the
Chamber of Commerce. This year it was a very tight race between D & D and First National Bank followed
closely by Arvest Bank. See additional photo's on page 6A.

Local cowboy doesn't let anything get him down

A hometown cowboy
who overcame adversity
to follow his dream will
participate tonight in the
Phil Gardenhire Rodeo.
Riding with him will be
his life long friends, determination,
dedication, heart
and soul.
Cody Christian, 30, of
Spiro, has spent his life
achieving things that some
take for granted, but never
once did it slow him down.
Cody was born with a cancerous
tumor called
Neuroblastoma. At the
age of nine months, Cody
was admitted to St. Judes
Research Hospital in
Memphis, TN., and soon
underwent surgery to
remove the tumor.
