Pharmacist stops scam

A narcotics scam went
south after a local pharmacist
found out that the man the
medications were prescribed
to was being treated at a
Norman hospital and wasn’t
receiving the medications.
Shannongail Diane
Rutledge, 59, of McCurtain,
was recently charged with
three counts of obtaining a
controlled dangerous substance
by forgery or fraud
and one count of obtaining
cash or merchandise by
bogus check after she used
an allegedly forged check to
pick up a prescription for a
man she claimed was her
father.

Festival is good family fun

This year’s Kiamichi Outdoor
Sportsman’s Festival is September 9 and
10.
The festival begins on Friday,
September 9 at 1 p.m. with a four man
scramble golf tournament at Choctaw
Country Club. Entry fee for the tournament
is $200 per team, and Poteau Main
Street is still looking for hole sponsors.
After the tournament, from 7 p.m. until 9
p.m. there will be live music and vendors
on Dewey Avenue in downtown Poteau.
The following day, September 10,
begins at “first safe light” with a bass
fishing tournament at Quarry Island on
Wister Lake. Buy-in is $40 per head and

Tournament championship rings they won last May. The players were awarded
their state rings in a ceremony Wednesday morning at the Wister High School
Gym.

SPIRO — The Spiro Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways Tuesday afternoon as they defeated the Pocola Lady Indians 8-3.
Heavener 13, Whitesboro 0: In Whitesboro, the Lady Wolves (10-2) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening inning and never looked back.
Wister 17, Smithville 2: In Smithville, since the Lady Wildcats (4-5) could not play their game at Talihina due to the Lady Golden Tigers not having enough players because of an injury, they headed into northern McCurtain County and handled the Lady Braves.

Leflore's baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Indianola cancelled

Tuesday afternoon's Leflore Savages baseball game at Indianola was canceled. The game will be rescheduled, but no date was told The Poteau Daily News by this edition's press time.
It is the second game this week which was canceled as the Savages' road game Monday afternoon at Smithville was cancelled.
The Savages will try to play a game this week when they play Varnum at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the opening round of the Calvin Tournament. The title game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday.

Poteau to be in final scrimmage at Tahlequah with Miami

Sometimes it can be just as important to keep things going the way they are as it is to just improve. That seems to be the case with the Poteau Pirates football team, which will be in its final preseason scrimmage of the season at approximately 5 p.m. today against the host Tahlequah Tigers and the Miami Wardogs at Gable Field at Doc Wadley Stadium on the campus of Northeastern Oklahoma State University.

Arkoma football team to get tested in tonight's scrimmage

There's nothing like getting battle tested to get yourself ready for war. The Arkoma Mustangs football team will get just that tonight.
The Mustangs will be in a four-way scrimmage beginning at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Broken Arrow against host Summit Christian, Dewar and Welch.
