Poteau pitcher no-hits Wister

Poteau junior pitcher Brenna Vise is continuing her prowess in the pitching circle. She pitched a no-hitter as the Lady Pirates blanked the Wister Lady Wildcats 10-0 in a game called due to the run rule in the fourth inning Monday afternoon.

Red Oak gets past Wister to win CASC Classic

The Red Oak Eagles and the Wister Wildcats were to have met on Aug. 12 in Red Oak, but the game was rained out. But their paths finally crossed Saturday afternoon in the title game of the 16th annual Carl Albert Fall Baseball Classic at CASC's Ival Goodman Field.
The Eagles got past the Wildcats 11-5 to win the championship.
The Eagles (10-1) got past the Cameron Yellowjackets 5-1 Friday night at Howe's Lions Field, while the ’Cats (8-2) run ruled Crowder 13-3 Friday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field in the other championship semifinal.

Whitesboro boys capture own tournament title

WHITESBORO — The Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team did what every team which hosts a tournament wishes — to win their own event. The ’Dogs did just that.
Whitesboro run ruled the Panola Bearcats 11-3 in Saturday afternoon's title game.
The Bulldogs (5-6) won their championship semifinal 8-5 over the Battiest Panthers Friday night.

TULSA — The Poteau Lady Pirates capped off last week with a pair of wins in the University of Tulsa Festival on Friday. Poteau beat Adair 10-2 and Catoosa 11-1.
Heavener 6, Sallisaw 1; Heavener 4, Locust Grove 3: At the Oktaha Tournament, the Lady Wolves (16-5) only played their final two pool play games, and did not play for what would have been third place as that game was part of this year's tournament.
Wister 10, Arkoma 0; Wister 8, Arkoma 2: In Wister, in the opener, the Lady Wildcats (6-7) took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, then upped the lead to 4-0 after two innings.

Heavener wins scrimmage, but host Spiro dominates game-situation phase

SPIRO — This year, the opposing teams of Heavener and Spiro squared off in football purely on a scrimmage basis. Heavener is in Class 2A and Spiro is in 3A. Next year, they will be in the same district, and will face each other later in year when the stakes will be considerably larger.

Panama football team shows improvement in its Friday night scrimmage against Warner

PANAMA — First-Year Panama Razorbacks Football Coach Brandon Ellis saw some good things in his team's final preseason scrimmage against the Warner Eagles Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.
In fact, no more had everyone gotten settled when the Hogs made some noise offensively. Quarterback Trevor Bourne hit Isaac Burris on a 62-yard touchdown play, which proved to be the only score the Razorbacks had on the night.

Pocola a little inconsistent on offense in final scrimmage

STIGLER — The word that Pocola Football Coach Rick Lang described Friday night's final preseason scrimmage at Stigler was inconsistent.
“We couldn't get much consistency going offensively,” Lang said about his offensive unit, which did not score on the night. “We looked good moving the ball. I was pleased with the kids about that. But consistency was what we lacked Friday night. I didn't play my starting quarterback (Devon Johnson) because he has a problem with his back."
