Arkoma Mustangs welcome Canadian to town tonight for first scrimmage

August 19, 2011

With high optimism and most of his players back from last season's playoff campaign, Arkoma Mustangs Football Coach Mark Weatherton pretty much knows what to expect offensively.
“Having as many players back as we have is big,” said Weatherton, whose team will welcome the Canadian Colugars to town tonight for a 6 p.m. scrimmage. “They already know what we do in practice. We don't have to go over it time and time again. They already know it. That puts us way ahead of the game. Bringing back seven to eight starters that we have, we know we can score — we averaged 50 points a game last season.”

Panama football team to hit road to scrimmage at Okmulgee tonight; Razorbacks had interteam Red-White Scrimmage Saturday night

August 19, 2011

When the Panama Razorbacks football team travels to face the Okmulgee Bulldogs for their first scrimmage of the preseason at 6 p.m. tonight, there's one main thing first-year Panama Coach Brandon Ellis wants his players to accomplish.
“I think the biggest thing is seeing what they've learned, and see if they've put it all together and retained the knowledge given to them,” Ellis said. “Another big thing is to see how conditioned we are. I want to see how we stack up to another team.”

Pocola to scrimmage Gore tonight at home

August 19, 2011

When the Pocola Indians get their first chance to face a team in tonight's 7 p.m. scrimmage against the Gore Pirates at John Carter Field, one word can describe what Pocola Coach Rick Lang wants to see.
“Consistency, especially early,” Lang said. “I want to see these kids hustle and be enthusiastic. With the number of kids we have back, I want to see consistency on both sides of the ball, especially on sustaining drives and not turning the ball over.”

Spiro football team to scrimmage Checotah tonight on home field

August 19, 2011

The Spiro Bulldogs football team will get its first chance to perform in a competitive atmosphere tonight when they entertain the Checotah Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. at McClain Stadium.
With a lot of youth on this season's team, Spiro Coach Chris Bunch said he wants to see a good rhythm from his team.

Cameron boys bounce back with rout of Smithville, but Howe boys lose to Red Oak

August 19, 2011

RED OAK — The Cameron Yellowjackets found some redemption Thursday afternoon at the Eagle Classic at Eagle Field.
After being run ruled 12-0 in three innings by Oktaha in Wednesday afternoon's opener, the Yellowjackets bounced back with a run-rule victory of their own with a 12-1, four-inning, run-rule win over the Smithville Braves Thursday afternoon.
But the news was not as good for another LeFlore County team as the Howe Lions were run ruled by the host Red Oak Eagles 12-0 in three innings Wednesday afternoon.

Last weekend's trip to Lake Eufaula with family, friends

August 19, 2011

The trio of families, the Adamses, the Midgleys and the Wickwares, loaded up and headed to Lake Eufaula on Saturday.
We started over at Eufaula Cove and went to Jellystone Park. They have a “Wipeout Course” out there in the cove, and it's harder than it looks! I was out of breath just after my first pass. They had a huge slide and water trampoline, too!
It costs just $10, and you get to do all the following — paddle boats, kayaking, putt-putt, shuffleboard, swimming, arcade and — my favorite — the snack bar. It's a real cool place to take the kids and have a blast.
