The Poteau Lady Pirates were the only team to go through the 2011 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament undefeated as they claimed their fourth straight title.
The Lady Pirates defeated the Panama Lady Razorbacks 4-1 amid rain sprinkles Thursday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Count ’em — 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. That is how many turnovers the Poteau Pirates had in Friday night's contest at Costner Stadium against the Gravette Lions, who are ranked eighth in Class 4A in Arkansas. A team could not beat an average or sub-par team with those numbers, much less a team of the Lions' caliber. In the end, the Lions left town 31-16 victors.
TALIHINA — After being away from Doc Robinson Stadium for about a month since their first preseason scrimmage in the third week of August, the Talihina Golden Tigers presented their fans with a home-opening win Friday night.
After the game was tied at 7-7, the Golden Tigers outscored Sallisaw-Central 33-0 in the second half to roll past the Tigers 40-7.
NORMAN — The Arkoma Mustangs are wanting to be a championship team this football season, and Friday night they might have just taken a big step toward that.
The Mustangs defeated Southwest Christian 26-18 to improve to 3-0.
QUINTON — Pocola Coach Rick Lang was calling Friday night's game with the Quinton Savages a “mission-statement win” if the Indians could get it — and they did.
Colton Hamm's 40-yard interception return for a touchdown with about four minutes left to play, then Cody Young caught the two-point conversion pass, as the Indians rallied to down the Savages 15-14 in a battle of unbeaten teams.
BOKOSHE — The Bokoshe Tigers were hoping the third time would be the charm Friday night in getting their new football coach, Tyler Massey, his first win. Unfortunately for the locals, it did not happen.
The Webbers Falls Warriors, who suffered a 40-14 loss last week to Class C's fourth-ranked Covington-Douglas Wildcats, took out their frustration on the Tigers as they won their District C-4 opener by a score of 56-0.
SPIRO — In a defensive contest that left both teams scoreless for most the game Friday night at McClain Stadium, the Roland Rangers pulled a last-minute upset against the Spiro Bulldogs when they caught an interception late in the fourth quarter which led to a field goal in the final 27 seconds of the game bringing the final score 10-7 in Roland's favor.
PARIS, Ark. — The Heavener Wolves were hoping to equal last season's win total Friday night in their final non-district game of the 2011 season. The host team had other ideas.
Paris proved to be too much for the Wolves in a 50-0 setback.
GORE — The Panama Razorbacks gave up their 13th loss in a row Friday night after they were blanked by the Gore Pirates by a score of 33-0. The game marked the return to Gore for new Panama Coach Brandon Ellis, who was trying to beat his former team.
