Whether it was the Monday afternoon loss to Red Oak in the cancer game or that contest's postgame pep talk by Poteau Coach Misty Collins, either or both seemed to put some vigor into the Lady Pirates in their Tuesday afternoon home game against the Spiro Lady Bulldogs.
After losing their last two games to Panama and Red Oak, the Lady Pirates responded by run ruling the Lady Bulldogs 10-2 in five innings.
WESTVILLE — It was a happy trip up and down U.S. 59 on Saturday as the Poteau Bandit League football teams went 4-0 against the homestanding Westville squads.
The sixth-grade Poteau team handled Westville 24-8, which followed the fifth-grade team's 28-0 shutout of Westville, a thrilling come-from-behind 24-22 victory for the fourth-graders and a 25-7 win for the third-graders.
In the sixth-grade contest, Kale Barcheers had two rushing touchdowns, while Jamison Shackleford had another rushing TD. Seth Ryan kicked three two-point conversions for Poteau.
The Heavener Wolves looked all primed to win their District 2A-6 opener Friday night at Harvey Stadium against the Hartshorne Miners to celebrate Homecoming. However, a rough second half defensively left the Wolves with their second straight loss, 41-25 to the Miners.
