Poteau girls awarded top seed for LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament

September 2, 2011

The Poteau Lady Pirates won last year's LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament, and they have only lost once so far this fall season.
Based upon those facts, the Lady Pirates were named the top seed for this season's LeFlore County Tournament, which will be Sept. 12-15 at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Four teams received byes into the winner's-bracket quarterfinals. Along with Poteau, getting byes were second-seed Spiro, third-seed Panama and fourth-seed Panama.
As last year, there will only be 12 teams in the field, instead of the usual 13 — but there is a change.

Are you all ready for some football?

Football season is finally here! High schools and colleges across the country will be butting helmets tonight and Saturday. The Poteau Pirates will open their season at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Costner Stadium agains the Checotah Wildcats.
The Poteau Bandits (the third-fourth grade and fifth-sixth grade teams) will travel to play Sallisaw beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday. For a lot of these players, this will be their first football game, which is both exciting and frustrating.
