Spiro girls split first two games in Class 3A Regional Tournament

September 30, 2011

TAHLEQUAH — The Spiro Lady Bulldogs softball team was going to have to do things the hard way Thursday afternoon if they were going to be playing in next week's Class 3A State Tournament.
In the Class 3A Regional Tournament Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs suffered a heart-breaking, nine-inning, 3-2 loss to the Beggs Lady Golden Demons in their first game of the tournament. However, they bounced back with just as thrilling a game, edging the Adair Lady Warriors in eight innings.

Poteau Pirates look to snap losing streak tonight against Tulsa Webster

September 30, 2011

The Poteau Pirates football team will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they travel to play the Tulsa Webster Warriors at 7:30 p.m. tonight for a District 4A-4 contest.
The Pirates (2-2 overall, 0-1 in district play) lost last week's district opener 42-16 to the Hilldale Hornets — which came after a Week 3 31-16 setback at the hands of the Gravette (Ark.) Lions.
If there is a silver lining in the clouds from last week's district-opening loss, it's that the Pirates may have solved some of their deficiencies.

Bokoshe gets first win of season for new coach; now, it's Panama's turn

September 30, 2011

While it took four games to do it, the Bokoshe Tigers won their first game of the season last week against Eagle Point Christian Academy in a dramatic 48-42 win.

September 30, 2011

Arkoma plays final non-district game tonight, entertains Eagle Point Christian Academy

September 30, 2011

The Arkoma Mustangs football team will get one last chance to fine tune things before the rest of the District C-4 schedule. The Mustangs will welcome Eagle Point Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. tonight at home.
Since this is the final non-district game, there are some things which Arkoma Coach Mark Weatherton would like to accomplish tonight.

Spiro seeks end to losing streak tonight against Eufaula

September 30, 2011

The Spiro Bulldogs are on a three-game losing streak since opening the 2011 season with a 44-6 win over Panama at McClain Stadium.
But since then, the Bulldogs (1-3 overall, 0-1 in District 3A-8) has scored only 29 points, with the six in last week's 23-6 district-opening loss to Idabel coming on Kaleb Guidry's interception return for a touchdown.
“That's been the problem,” Spiro Coach Chris Bunch said.

Pocola looks to rebound against Wilburton tonight

September 30, 2011

POCOLA — If there is a good thing about last week's 75-6 loss to the Vian Wolverines in the District 2A-6 opener for the Pocola Indians, it is that there's the Wilburton Diggers waiting in the wings.
Last year, the Diggers came to John Carter Field and left with a 21-14 victory. The Indians (3-1, 0-1 in district play), who saw their six-game winning streak dating back to last season snapped by last week's loss, do not want the same thing to happen this year when the two teams meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Wilburton.
