Pirate senior defensive back says season-opening win big

When the Poteau Pirates defeated the Checotah Wildcats 38-35 last Friday night at Costner Stadium, among the happy players was senior defensive back Jesse Woodson.
“It was good,” Woodson said. “We came out, and we played hard. We gave it all we had.”
Woodson had a good reason to be happy. His interception in the waning seconds sealed the deal for Poteau.

Poteau Bandit League teams go 3-1 to open season at Sallisaw

SALLISAW — Most coaches will take a .750 winning percentage, and that was the percentage of Poteau Bandit League success in the season openers Saturday night.
The Poteau fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade teams all posted victories, while the Black Diamonds took the third-grade game.
The Poteau sixth-grade team won 36-0 as Kale Barcheers scored three touchdowns and Jamison Shackleford and Seth Ryan each had a TD.
Poteau took the fifth-grade contest 20-0 behind a touchdown apiece from Josh Smith, Christian Scott and Tylor Word.

PANAMA — Panama pitcher Taylor Eaves threw a four-hit shutout as the Lady Razorbacks downed the Spiro Lady Bulldogs 4-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Wister 10, Bokoshe 0; Wister 4, Talihina 3: In Wister, the Lady Wildcats (12-8) got a no-hitter from Katelen Morgan (1-0) as she fanned five batters in the three-inning, run-rule victory over the Lady Tigers.
In Wister's victory over Talihina, Morgan used her bat to decide the game as her two-out, solo home run in the fifth ended the game.

LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages baseball team won for the eighth time in their last 10 games as they posted a pair of home wins Monday, beating the Howe Lions 2-1 and the McCurtain Bulldogs 10-3.
Cameron 12, Crowder 4: In Canadian, the Yellowjackets (11-5) jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Then, after the Demons cut the deficit to 4-2 in the third inning, the ’Jackets erupted for six runs in the third inning to take a 10-2 lead after three innings.
Whitesboro 18, Panola 10: In Panola, the Bulldogs (7-8) rallied from a 10-9 deficit with a nine-run seventh inning to get the come-from-behind win.

Spiro looks for second win in a row, visits Muldrow Friday night

The Spiro Bulldogs opened the season last Thursday night with a 44-6 win over the Panama Razorbacks at McClain Stadium.
Not only do the ’Dogs look to make it two straight wins to begin the season Friday night when they visit the Muldrow Bulldogs, but they will look for a little bit of a better performance.
