Talihina finally has home opener, faces Sallisaw-Central

After almost a month away from getting to perform in front of their fans, the Talihina Golden Tigers will get to play their home opener — finally.
The Golden Tigers (2-0) will entertain the Sallisaw-Central Tigers at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Doc Robinson Stadium.

A battle of unbeatens tonight when Pocola visits Quinton

Although it's not a playoff game, it has a feeling of one. The undefeated Pocola Indians (2-0) will visit the Quinton Savages (2-0) in the final non-district game for the Indians.

A few teams still undefeated; Heavener gets first win

We still have some unbeatens in LeFlore County. Poteau (which routed Idabel 42-7), Arkoma (a mercy-rule win over Prue in its District C-4 opener), Pocola (34-10 victors over Haileyville) and Talihina (an 18-14 road winner at Gore).
Heavener had to wait until Week 8 last year to get its first win of the season. This year, the Wolves got it in their home opener last week, beating Sallisaw-Central 21-6.

Second annual Poteau Pirate Invitational set Saturday at PARC; Heavener Lady Wolves, Wolves among teams participating in cross country meet

The second annual Poteau Pirate Invitational cross country meet will be Saturday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Just as last year, there will be an open 5K run and a fun walk/run beginning at 8 p.m. The entry fee is $20 per runner with a limit of 50. Registration will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Then, beginning at approximately 9 a.m. will begin the actual cross country meet.
In just two short years, the number of teams has grown.

Gunnels, Michaels win Kiamichi Outdoor Festival Bass Tournament

The Main Street Matters Kiamichi Outdoor Festival Bass Tournament took place Saturday at Wister Lake. The weigh-in took place in downtown Poteau on Dewey Avenue.
Todd Gunnels and Greg Michaels took first place, hauling in 15.83 pounds of fish.
Keith Griffith and Gary Steelman were second (15.16), while Chuck Restine and Steve Core were third (15 pounds even — which included Steve's big bass, weighing 4.73 pounds).

away Tuesday, September 13, in Camerson. Jerry was
born May 4, 1950 in Poteau, Okla. Services are pending

Poteau, Spiro reach LeFlore County Softball Tournament winner's-bracket final

The top two seeds, the Poteau Lady Pirates and the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, are where the seeding would suggest for the 2011 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament — the winner's-bracket final.
Tuesday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, the Lady Pirates run ruled the Heavener Lady Wolves 10-0 in one winner's-bracket semifinal, while the Lady Bulldogs held off the Panama Lady Razorbacks 3-2 in the other semifinal.
Poteau (22-3) and Spiro (16-4) were slated to meet Wednesday night with the winner finding themselves in tonight's championship game at 7 p.m.
