High anticipation for local teams present as practice gets ready to begin Tuesday

If you're a high school football player or coach, Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 has been circled on the calendar for quite some time. That is the day which high school football teams can begin practicing for their 2011 seasons, which officially begin in September.

There's always some kind of heat issues high school football teams will deal with when practice begins every August. But this year, when practice begins Tuesday for the 2011 season, this summer's heatwave may be the worst ever. Thus, it's making the teams plan accordingly.
“I've never seen heat like this,” Spiro Coach Chris Bunch said. “We've got to be real careful because of it. We can't take a chance of the kids getting hurt. One thing, we're going to give them as much water as possible, and we probably won't go as long as we normally would.”

New Bokoshe football coach wants to expand his coaching duties

While at Briggs Middle School in Tahlequah, Tyler Massey was only coaching football. When the chance presented itself to be able to coach even more, he took the opportunity by the horns.
Massey is the new Bokoshe football coach, and will also help out in basketball and baseball.

PVIA officials requesting help from citizens

The Poteau Valley Improvement
Authority is asking residents to conserve
water following a record setting summer
of high temperatures and drought.
According to Don Goforth, PVIA
manager, the problem isn’t with water
availability or the capacity of the water
treatment plant at Wister Lake. The problem
is with distribution.
“There is plenty of water in Wister
Lake and the treatment plant has adequate
