John Wesley Willard
John Wesley Willard, 88, of Leflore died Monday, July 11, 2011, at his residence.
Willard was born in Wister on May 31, 1923, the son of the late Wesley and Johnnie (Brooks) Willard.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Betty Patchin on May 26, 1973, in Weatherford. He began teaching in Thackerville in 1962, then taught at Leflore school, where he retired in 1985.
He also worked as a farmer/rancher, was a member of the Red Oak Masonic Lodge and served for many years as a deacon at Summerfield Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter.

Ava Webster died suddenly on July 9, 2011, at her home in Bokoshe. She was born Avarilla Mae Wingo on Jan. 27, 1932, in Paul’s Valley. Ava was the eldest daughter of William and Agnes Wingo’s 11 children and was affectionately known as “Sis.” She married Virgil “Bunk” Webster on Dec. 21, 1946. They moved to Santa Maria, Calif., where they raised a son, Rick, and a daughter, Holly.

Lori Diane  Carrillo, 49, of Poteau died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in Poteau. Lori was born  Aug. 22, 1961 in Nashville, Tenn., to Carl and Gail Dollarhide. She  was a clerk in collections and a former employee of Poteau Daily News.

Leavada Elliott, 87, formerly of Wister, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at her home in Marion, Ill., surrounded by her family. Services were held July 7, in Wolf Cemetery in Seminole. She moved to Illinois three years ago after living most her life in Oklahoma.

Durant Rangers run rule Holdenville Outlaws to win 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament

After hanging on to win the first title game over the Holdenville Outlaws, momentum was clearly with the Durant Rangers. And they did not let up in the second title game.
Durant jumped out to an early lead and never let up as the Rangers ended up run ruling the Outlaws 10-0 in four innings to win the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament Saturday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.

The Durant Rangers needed at least one win to keep their season going, and force a second championship game against the Holdenville Outlaws in the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament Saturday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. They did just that.
The combination of a three-run second inning and the pitching of Durant starter Lukas Long was enough as the Rangers held off a late rally by the Outlaws to win 3-2.

In Friday night's loser's-bracket final in the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, after the Durant Rangers had a seven-run outburst in the opening inning, it looked as if it was going to be a run-rule contest.
That ended up being farthest from the truth.
The Tushka Tigers kept chipping away at the deficit, but in the end they fell a run short in a 7-6 win by the Rangers to send them to tonight's state title game.
The Tigers end the season at 36-20.

Tushka Tigers break open tight game late to eliminate Weatherford Red

For 4.5 innings, the loser’s-bracket semifinal between the Tushka Tigers and the Weatherford Red was up for grabs.
But a three-run fifth inning by the Tigers broke open a close game as Tushka eliminated Weatherford by a score of 6-2 Friday night in the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Tushka (36-19) broke the scoreless tie on an RBI single by Dillon Mansell and a Weatherford error for a 2-0 lead after an inning.
An RBI single by Ridge Stephens in the second inning score Cole Broughton to make it 3-0 after two innings.
