Juanita “Jip” Tormey, 80, of Pocola died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pocola. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Pocola.
Eva Caldwell Kirk, 98, formerly of Poteau, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Carolina House, Morehead City, N.C. Born on May 24, 1913, she was a daughter of the late John Edward and Fannie Bone Caldwell.
Wilma Sue Marler, 81, Cameron, died Jan. 26, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Oct. 6, 1930, at Washburn, Ark., to Roland Rease and Ocie Bell (Gipson) Francis. Wilma was a homemaker and a retired nursing assistant. For many years she provided a loving home environment for approximately 60 foster children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carrol Cooper, who helped raise her children; five brothers, Gene, Elmer, Velmer, Alford and Orb Francis; a sister, Ernestine Johnson; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
While the Poteau Pirates wrestling team is the host team for the 2012 Maverick Conference Tournament, the Pirates won't be at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
This year's tournament will be today and Saturday at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. Action on both days will begin at noon, with the finals slated to start anywhere from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Although CASC will be the site for the two-day event, second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee is glad to be the host team.
The National Football League season will officially end in two weeks. The Pro Bowl will take place Sunday night at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, followed the by Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots the following Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
I always don't know what to do with myself, and I feel lost at the end of the football season.
