TULSA — The Poteau Pirates stood toe to toe with Class 4A's top-ranked Cascia Hall Commandos Friday night. Even though the final score was 24-3, the game henged on two fumbles — one that was waved off and one that should have been allowed. The Commandos were the benefactors of both calls. Poteau lost a touchdown in the final quarter as Jace Pitchford appeared to have crossed the goal line only to have the ruling from the officials that he fumbled, with the hosts making the recovery.
SPIRO — The Spiro Bulldogs entertained the Heavener Wolves Friday night at McClain Stadium in a renewed LeFlore County rivalry and came away with a 45-28 win in District 3A-8 action.
PANAMA — Break out the Panama Razorbacks. The Hogs won for the second straight week as they handled the Quinton Savages 34-6 Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.

As most of you reader know, during the high school football season, the Saturday morning editions are held so we can get the high school football games' stories into that edition.
Next week is Fall Break, and all the games will be played on Thursday night. In my first two years as sports editor of The Poteau Daily News, the decision was made to not hold Friday morning's edition for the games' stories, but wait and publish them on that Saturday's edition.
TULSA — Alex Singleton tied a school record with two rushing touchdowns and Tulsa broke things open with a 20-point third explosion en route to a 33-11 victory over Texas-El Paso Thursday night in Conference USA action at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
Singleton, who now has 32 career rushing TDs, ran for 96 yards on 21 carries. His scores covered 1 and 10 yards.
Ja’Tarian Douglass was TU’s top rusher with 128 yards on 13 handoffs, with most of the yardage coming on an 81-yard TD run that gave Tulsa a comfortable lead in the third quarter.
