OU football seems to be alive and well after all

Wow!! I did not write a column last week, but what about the Sooners and the victories they have had the last two weeks. I know they were very ugly wins, but I only have one thing to say about that — I would rather win ugly than lose ugly. I am of the belief that the game against Texas Christian is going to be the same kind of game.

Lady Vikings win over Lewis and Clark

Behind 17 points from Roland’s Ericka Edwards and 12 points from Heavener’s Skylar Cooper, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings won their opener in the Marcus Harvey Invitational tournament in Kansas City, Mo., 75-61 over Lewis and Clark Community College of Godfrey, Ill., on Friday afternoon.

Tourney host Collin County edges Vikings

Despite getting 16 points from Jaymere Hadden, it wasn’t enough for the Carl Albert State College Vikings as they couldn’t overcome a seven-point deficit at halftime and fell 52-47 to host Collin County College in the opening game of the Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night in Plano, Texas.

Cashion ends Talihina season with 42-24 quarterfinal win

TALIHINA — Talihina’s season came to a close at the Doc Robinson Stadium on Friday night as the Cashion Wildcats used a first-quarter salvo and a fourth-quarter knockout punch to defeat the Tigers 42-24.

Eual Dillon, 95, of Pocola died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro. Burial will be in Woodlawn park Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark.

Amy Lynn Rains Childs, 40, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, in Fort Smith. 
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau. Burial will be in LeFlore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Evans and Miller Funeral home.

Barbara Nelson

November 27, 2012

Memorial services for Barbara Nelson, 79, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Asbury United Methodist Church Mason Chapel in Broken Arrow. The Rev. Tom Harrison will officiate.
Barbara Ann Nelson was born on Sept. 26, 1933, in Springfield, o., the daughter of Dr. James Leroy and Mamie (Lance) Baker. Barbara died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Gaylon Cox

Gaylon Cox, 77, of Hackett, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a great grandson. Cox was a retired superintendent for Willard Mirror Co.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Old Union Cemetery near Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.

Mary Belle Scott Cooper, 86, of Poteau died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark. Mary Belle was born April 16, 1926, in Hitchita to James Albert and Haley (Gabbard) Scott. She and her husband owned and operated the Sears Roebuck store in Poteau. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Grady Scott and Dale Scott; sisters, Dovie Brown, Wilma Shipp and Helen Sychr.

Tommie Louise Griffin, 74, of Shady Point died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in Shady Point.
Tommie was born October 28, 1938 in Bonham, Texas, to Joseph Saul and Bonnie (Marsh) Nowell. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Joyce Davis, Jim Nowell and Bill Nowell; nephew, Joseph Nowell; niece, Christy Nowell Rogers; grandson, Jason Markley; and Joseph Saul Nowell; her parents and stepfather, Jack Coltrane; numerous aunts and uncles. She was a beautician for 45 years.
