WILBURTON — It was not easy, but the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs basketball team won its first game of the 2012 Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic with a 57-52 overtime win over the Buffalo Valley Lady Buffaloes on Wednesday afternoon at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
The win put the Lady Bulldogs (7-3) into Saturday morning's gold bracket consolation championship game at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilburton High School Gym against Cave Springs, which defeated Leflore on Thursday night.
GREENWOOD, Ark. — Just a little less than 24 hours after the Spiro High School basketball teams opened their seasons with road wins Tuesday night at Eufaula, they suffered their first losses of the season.
The Bulldogs lost 73-48 and the Lady Bulldogs fell 64-45, both against Siloam Springs, Ark., on Wednesday at the H.B. Stewart Classic.
The ’Dogs and the Lady Bulldogs, after playing host Greenwood on Thursday night, will conclude their three-game stay in the event with games at 4 p.m. (girls) and 5:30 p.m. (boys) today against Ozark.
The Talihina High School wrestling team will begin its season with the two-day weekend Okmulgee Tournament. After this morning's 10 a.m. weigh-ins, wrestling will begin at noon, with Day 2 action starting at 10 a.m.
There are three Golden Tigers who have the most mat experience — Derek Lester (113 pounds), Jasper Humphreys (119) and Dylan Chancellor (195).
Four other wrestlers who saw action last year, but are not as experienced as the other three are Triston Blemmell (132 pounds), Blake Smith (152), Rodney Killingsworth (182) and Caleb Blue (heavyweight).
Around age 12, I got one of those little compound bow beginner kits. Of course, the first month I went around sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by arrows. Did you know that my grandfather's 1955 40-hourse Farmall tractor tire took six rounds of arrows before going down? It was a tough sucker.
That got boring, so being a fan of “The Dukes of Hazzard” as I was, I quickly advanced to taking strips of cut-up T-shirts doused in chain saw gas, tied around the end of my arrrow and firing flaming arrows all over the place.
The Poteau Valley Human Society is hosting "Home 4 the Holidays" Friday and Saturday offering free adoption of all adult cats.
PVHS has more than 20 cats ranging in age from six months to 18 years that are needing a permanent home. During the two day event, adoption fees have been waived. All cats are spayed or neutered and up to date on shots.
If you would like to adopt a cat, PVHS requires you complete an adoption application and bring a pet taxi to give your new pet a safe ride home.
