Editor's note — This is the second of a two-part series previewing the Poteau High School basketball teams.
Last season, the Poteau Lady Pirates basketball team was the Cinderella story of the 2012 LeFlore County high school basketball playoffs. After ending the regular season at 5-18 last season, the Lady Pirates won three of five playoff games, won the Class 4A District Tournament, were consolation champions at the regional tournament and got to within three wins of the state tournament.
The Spiro Bulldogs will begin clawing their way to basketball wins Tuesday night when they open their 2012-13 season at Eufaula for an 8 p.m. game.
The Bulldogs were 18-9 last season, and return two starters from last year — junior guard Knifeis Carter (16 points, four rebounds a game last season) and senior guard Jermaine Jimmerson (11 points, eight rebounds).
Carter is among the top 100 players to watch this high school season in the state of Oklahoma in the Vype Oklahoma Basketball Preview magazine.

TISHOMINGO — A decisive 18-6 run to begin the second half proved to be the difference for the Murray State College Lady Aggies in their 64-46 win over the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings on Thursday night at Gene Robbins Arena.
Despite having three players score 10 points each, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Vikings in their 53-48 loss to the Murray State College Aggies in the second game of the night.
WHITESBORO — The Whitesboro High School basketball teams will enter next week's Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic, which will take place at both EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse and the Wilburton High School Gymnasium, on high notes.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs posted home wins over Indianola on Thursday night. The ’Dogs routed the Warriors 85-46, which came on the heels of the Lady Bulldogs' 65-41 victory over the Lady Warriors.
