With the winter chill finally behind us, the time is now to strap on your running shoes and get running.
Area runners and walkers will have a chance to support youth softball.
Sponsored by parents of the ball players, the Run with the Wildcats 5K walk and run will raise money to support the Wister Wildcats this season.
The event will take place on March 17 at 9 a.m. The route starts at the LeFlore County Highway Department Building southwest of Poteau in the Poteau Industrial Complex next to Southern Star Inc.
The LeFlore County Sheriff's Department along with Bokoshe and Spiro Police Department s served a narcotics search warrant Tuesday morning at a residence on Sebo Lane east of Spiro. Two people were arrested in the drug raid after officers recovered 97 grams of methamphetamines, 217 grams of marijuana, 16 packages of K2 and two packages of 7H (version of K2). Also taken from the residence were three sets of digital scales and other illegal drug paraphernalia. Brian Steele, 32, and Kelli Thompson, 31, are both facing drug charges stemming from the drug raid.

WISTER — When the Wister Lady Wildcats and the Spiro Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play Monday afternoon, the match-up was to have been in Spiro.
But due to wet fields, the game was moved to Wister — which meant the Lady ’Cats would end up getting last at-bats. But that didn't keep the Lady Bulldogs from posting a win.
A seventh-inning run broke a 5-all tie to propel the Spiro girls to a 6-5 win over Wister.
