Vikings win thriller in overtime over NEO to advance to main draw of Region II Tournament; CASC men will face Connors State Friday in quarterfinals at Shawnee

MIAMI, Okla. — Jamal Allston's free throw with 7.6 seconds left in overtime and Adrion Webber's game clinching blocked shot were both huge for the Carl Albert State College Vikings in their thrilling come from behind 73-70 win in overtime over the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norsemen Monday night in the first round of the Region II Tournament.
With the win over NEO, the 10th-seeded Vikings (6-23) advanced to the quarterfinal round to face the second-seeded Connors State College Cowboys at 1 p.m. Friday at Oklahoma Baptist University's Noble Complex in Shawnee.

CASC women's season ends with play-in game loss to Western; sophomore Lady Viking makes second team All-Region II

Behind strong first-half shooting and game clinching free throws, the Western Oklahoma State College Lady Pioneers came away with the 75-71 win over the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in the first round of the Region II Tournament Monday night.
With the loss to Western, the Lady Vikings' season comes to an end with an overall record of 8-21.
Whitney Barnes, who was named to the second team All-Region II, led the way in her final game as a Lady Viking with 20 points.

Poteau girls win season opener over Pocola

POCOLA — The Poteau Lady Pirates slow-pitch softball team hopes this season ends with yet another trip to the Class 6A State Tournament. They looked like they're primed for such a run in their season opener.
The Lady Pirates scored in every inning as they downed the Pocola Lady Indians 15-0 in a four-inning, run-rule game Monday afternoon.

Poteau baseball team gets first win

ROLAND — The Poteau Pirates evened their record at 1-1 Monday on the road against the Roland Rangers, pulling away late with a 9-3 victory.

SUBIACO, Ark. — The Subiaco Trojans, whose roster resembles that of an United Nations soccer team, jumped on the Poteau Pirates early as they had the wind at their back. They scored at the 18-minute mark of the first half and did not score again until seven minutes remaining in the game as the results of a penalty kick.
Poteau got a score from the foot of Grant Scowden. Then for the second game in a row, the Pirates had another player register a hat trick, Kendrick Hardaway, to rally the Pirates for a 4-2 victory.

Poteau golfer wins Coweta Invitational; Lady Pirates second to Bishop Kelley

COWETA — Poteau Lady Pirate golfer Hannah Ward won the individual medalist title with a 78 in the season-opening Coweta Invitational Monday afternoon.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were runners-up with a 408, finishing behind champion Tulsa Bishop Kelley (400). The tournament had 72 golfers and 15 teams, which were mostly from Classes 5A and 6A.
Cathleen Manlove was eighth-place medalist with an even 100, followed by Paitton Callery with a 114, Skylynn Terry with a 116 and Alyssa Vineyard had a 133.
The Lady Pirates will next hit the links at the Tahlequah Invitational next Wednesday.

HEAVENER — The Heavener Wolves got their baseball season off on the right foot with a 14-1 run-rule victory over the Howe Lions Monday afternoon.
The Wolves led 2-0 after one inning, then scored nine runs in the second inning for an 11-0 lead.
The only run for the Lions came in the fourth inning.
Cameron 10, Sallisaw-Central 1: In Cameron, the Yellowjackets bounced back from their rough loss Friday afternoon in Wilburton, and took out their frustrations out on the Tigers.
The ’Jackets scored six runs in the opening inning for a 6-0 lead to take control of the game.

Walk-off grand-slam home run lifts Cameron girls past Wister

CAMERON — It makes no difference how many times a team leads, just winning at the end of the game is all that matters. Just ask the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets.
A walk-off, grand-slam home run by Cheyenne Adams in the seventh inning lifted the Lady ’Jackets to a 10-9 come-from-behind win over the Wister Lady Wildcats in the season opener Monday afternoon.
Down 9-6 entering the final inning, Adams' grand-slam gave Cameron its only lead of the game.
