Poteau, Cameron individual golfers win titles at Poteau Pirate Invitational on Monday; Pirates finish third in large school division, Heavener boys seventh in small school division

April 12, 2012

Two local golfers won top-medalist honors at Monday's Poteau Pirate Invitational, which took place at both Choctaw Country Club and Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
In the large school division, Poteau's Cody Shore took home top honors as he carded a 70-75—145 to win by seven shots.
“I knew Cody could do this,” Poteau Coach Mike Thomas said. “He's just had problems with finishing the last two or three holes, but he didn't do that on Monday as he shot a 70 up on Wolf Ridge in the first round.”

Wildlife Department halts WMA baiting starting on July 1 in spite of public input

April 12, 2012

Not too long ago, I attended a public opinion meeting regarding baiting in Oklahoma Wildlife Management Areas. While at the meeting we were told by Jody Hemphill that “most of the people” who commented on the issue were “against” stopping baiting in the WMAs, we were also told that the problems were happening in WMAs out in the western part of the state, not here in the east. Specifically, hunters were placing bait in WMAs, and ,when they came back to hunt, another hunter would be set up over the bait. This caused physical and verbal disputes between the hunters.
