Monday's High School Baseball Roundup

WISTER — A two-run sixth inning rallied the Wister Wildcats for a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Hartshorne Miners Monday afternoon.
Down 3-2 after the Miners scored two in their half of the sixth inning, the ‘Cats got those two runs back on an RBI single by Tyler Gibson and a sacrifice fly by Colby Turnipseed to take a 4-3 lead into the final inning.
Turnipseed came in to pitch the seventh inning and struck out the final two batters with runners at second and third base to seal the deal to pick up the save.
Cody Luman got the win, pitching six innings with 10 Ks.

Cameron boys outlast Poteau Monday afternoon

CAMERON — In a back-and-forth game, the Poteau Pirates made a valliant effort to win in the seventh, but the Cameron Yellowjackets scored five runs in the fifth and held on for the 7-5 victory Monday afternoon.

While the Poteau Lady Pirates' offense kept its form, their defensive performance was a lot better Monday afternoon at home than in Friday's loss to Moore in the Muskogee Festival.
After defensive miscues aided the Lady Lions to a 12-0 lead by the second inning on Friday, that was not the case Monday afternoon as the Lady Pirates handled the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs 10-1 in a game ended in five innings by run rule.

WISTER — One big inning decided Monday afternoon's game between the Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Wister Lady Wildcats.
Down 7-6 after four innings, the Lady ’Cats erupted for an eight-run fifth inning to help them outlast the Lady Mustangs 14-11.
Leflore 9, Bokoshe 7; Bokoshe 11, Leflore 1: In Leflore, the Lady Tigers played their first games of the season due to a problem with lack of numbers.
In the opener, Allison Todd had a triple and three runs batted in for the Lady Savages, who won for the first time this season.

Poteau girls golf team win team, individual championships at Class 4A State Preview

OKLAHOMA CITY — It was a banner Monday afternoon of golf for the Poteau Lady Pirates.
The Lady Pirates won the Class 4A State Preview at Lake Hefner South Golf Course with a 363. Clinton was second (374), with Anadarko (380) third.
Not only did the Lady Pirates win the team title, they also had the top medalist as Hannah Ward's 73 bested the field of golfers.
Cathleen Manlove shot a 94, followed by Addie Guthrie with a 96 and even 100s from both Skylynn Terry and Paitton Callery.
The Lady Pirates will return to action at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Fort Smith (Ark.) Invitational.

City police officers retire after decades of service

Two of Poteau's longest employed police officers, Rob Seale and Jim Noggle, have retired from the force and will be honored during a farewell gathering at Poteau City Hall Friday.

The Panama High School baseball program is sponsoring a fundraiser in connection with Dunn Ford in Stigler and Ford Motor Company.
From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in front of the Panama Elementary School, people can test drive up to six different vehicles, with $20 per car test driven being donated to the Panama High School baseball program.

Murray State sweeps baseball doubleheader from Carl Albert on Saturday afternoon

The Murray State College Aggies baseball team completed a four-game series sweep of the Carl Albert State College Vikings Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field. The Aggies, who swept the Vikings Thursday afternoon at the MSC Baseball Field in Tishomingo, took Saturday afternoon's opener 3-1, then held off the Vikings 8-7 in the nightcap.
The Vikings will return to action with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Ival Goodman Field against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.

Poteau girls, Spiro boys third at Friday's Hilldale Invitational

MUSKOGEE — The Poteau Lady Pirates and Spiro Bulldogs track teams were third at Friday's Hilldale Invitational.
In the girls' division, the Lady Pirates scored 71 points, finishing behind champion Vinita (167 points) and McALester (82). The Spiro Lady Bulldogs scored 42 points.
While Poteau did not have any event champions, Spiro did. Tyeecha Hawkins won the 200-meter dash (26.37 seconds), while Kanisha Hutchinson took first in the long jump (13-6). Hawkins was runner-up in the 100-meter dash (12.5) and third in the 400-meter dash (1:00.19).
