Poteau soccer games Thursday do not take place

Thursday's home district soccer games against Westville for the Poteau High School teams at Costner Stadium did not take place.
While the Pirates and Lady Pirates had the games on their schedules for Thursday night, Westville had it down for Friday.
The games will not be played on Friday, and Poteau Girls Coach Jim Ervin said that efforts to reschedule will try to happen, but nothing will be done regarding the matter until Monday when Poteau Public Schools return from Easter weekend break.
The Lady Pirates and Pirates will play in Saturday's Greenwood (Ark.) Tournament.

Parents of Autism meeting tonight

Recognizing National Autism Awareness Month

April is National Autism Awareness Month-an opportunity to educate the public about autism and issues within the autism community.
Tonight there will be a LeFlore County Parents of Autism meeting at Carl Albert State College with a guest speaker from Project Peak. She will be taking questions from the parents. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is in the F.L Holton Business Center Theater on the Poteau Campus of CASC.

Pocola, Leflore stave off elimination at Leflore County Baseball Tournament; Rain washes out three of Tuesday's games, which were played before championship semifinals on Wednesday

SPIRO — Mother Nature didn't quite get all of the 2012 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament on Tuesday
While both games at Panama were rained out and the last game here between Pocola and Leflore was washed out due to Tuesday's rain, two games were played here before the showers arrived.
The Indians and the Savages staved off elimination as Pocola blanked Bokoshe 12-0 and Leflore run ruled Arkoma 11-1.
Wednesday saw five games played here, including all three games which were rained out Tuesday.
Pocola and Leflore played, followed by Howe and Panama with that winner meeting Heavener.

Poteau boys golf team wins Fort Gibson Invitational

FORT GIBSON — The Poteau Pirates golf team won the Fort Gibson Invitational on Tuesday.
The Pirates had a team score of 319, beating host and runner-up Fort Gibson (326) and Hilldale (328), which was third.
Two Pirates were among the top five medalists as Trey Wells and Jarrett Lowrimore each shot career-best 78s. John Scott Sanders had an 81, with Connor Wheat and Cody Shore each a shot back at 82.

MUSKOGEE — Poteau sophomore golfer Hannah Ward tied for the top medalist honor at the Hilldale Invitational title Tuesday afternoon after shooting a 73.
The Lady Pirates as a team were third with a team score of 365.
Cathleen Manlove had Poteau's second-best score with an 88, followed by Addie Guthrie with a 93. Paitton Callery and Skylynn Terry each shot 111.
The Lady Pirates will have their annual tournament today, the Poteau Lady Pirate Invitational, which will begin at 9 a.m. this morning at Choctaw Country Club.

Poteau soccer girls shut out by Keys (Park Hill); weather keeps Hugo from coming to town to meet Poteau Pirates

Keys (Park Hill) scored a goal early in the game and then added another late in the game to defeat the home standing Poteau Lady Pirates 2-0 in a district game Tuesday afternoon at Costner Stadium.
The Pirates were to have played the Hugo Buffaloes, but due to inclement weather conditions in the Hugo area the Buffaloes did not make the trip. It is unknown if or when the game will be rescheduled.

Heavener girls get wins over Talihina, Whitesboro, but Tuesday's rain washes out final game of three-way, other county games

TALIHINA — The Heavener Lady Bulldogs essentially beat three opponents Tuesday afternoon — the homestanding Talihina Lady Golden Tigers, the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs and Mother Nature. The Lady Wolves were able to get their games in Tuesday's three-way played before rain washed out the Whitesboro-Talihina game. Heavener beat Talihina 7-4, then defeated Whitesboro 28-6.
In the win over Talihina, the Lady Wolves broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the third inning and a run in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Turkeys, fishing and baseball — it means spring is here

Turkey season is just around the corner, and I plan on going out to locate some turkeys this weekend for my boys to chase around during the southeast region’s youth season coming up April 21-22. Koby is always ready to go hunting, and Cash told me that he just wants to kill a turkey. So, that makes me even more excited about the upcoming season.

Wister teams, individuals, as well as Singleton Elementary duo, place at State Archery Shoot

OKLAHOMA CITY — Last week, LeFlore County had great representation at the 2012 State Archery Shoot.
Wister Public Schools had the majority of the participants at all three divisions — high school, junior high and elementary.
In the high school division, Wister was eighth with 3,167 points. Last year's state champion, Colton Woolbright, finished fourth this year with 288 out of a possible 300 points.
