John Roger McCurdy, 67, of Cameron died Monday, May 7, 2012, in Cameron.Â He was born July 12, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas.Â He was a production manager in the Aerospace Industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene McCurdy and Dorothy Chloe (Brazil) Scoggins.
Last fall, Poteau Lady Pirate softball player Briley Benson made the Large East Fast-Pitch All-State Softball Team. This spring, two slow-pitch players received the same honor.
Poteau's Natalee King and Heavener's Logan Hinds, both of whom are soon-to-be Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings, were named to the Large East Slow-Pitch All-State Team.
King, who was named the 2012 LeFlore County Slow-Pitch County Tournament Most Valuable Player, batted .522 with four home runs, an on-base percentage of .625 and a slugging percentage of .774.
Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings Basketball Coach Jeff Tadtman would like to announce his first wave of new players for the 2012-13 season.
Abby Jackson, is a 5-6 combination guard from Acorn, Ark. She is a coach's kid, who does a lot of good things, according to Tadtman.
During her senior year, Jackson was named to the Arkansas Activities Association Class 1A All-State Girls Basketball Team, All-District Team and the Arkansas High School Coaches All-Star Basketball Team. Her sophomore year, she was named to the Class 1A All-State Basketball Team.
The Poteau Quarterback Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school football fieldhouse.
All parents of players and fans are urged to attend.

The Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team will have tryouts at 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Cameron.
Players who are between the ages of 16 and 19 are eligible to try out. Players who are age 19 who try out cannot turn age 20 before Jan. 1, and all players must live within a 50-mile radius of Spiro.
For those who try out, there will be a fee to pay to play.
