Samantha Sue Shockey, 39, of Hackett, Ark., died Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Kimmi Sarah Massey, 26,of Poteau died Saturday, July 21, 2012, in Poteau. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at the House of Hope Church in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
John â€śSonnieâ€ť Fullen, 64, of Shady Point died Thursday, July 26, 2012, in Fort Smith. Sonnie was born July 9, 1948, in Poteau to John Hoyt and Modean (Seaborn) Fullen. He was a general contractor. Sonnie was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church and the Poteau Masonic Lodge.Â
Storms struck LeFlore County Thursday evening at approximately 6 p.m. leaving several residents in Arkoma without electricity.
According to Emergency Management Director Michael Davidson, the severe weather caused considerable damage to the OG&E power grid in Arkoma. The residents are expected to be out of power possible until tomorrow.
To help combat the sweltering heat, a cooling center is being opened at the Arkoma First Baptist Church Gym. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and will remain open until electrical power is restored.

But Wednesday night marked the last time the Howe High School graduate played an official game on the hardwood, as she played for the East in the All-State Small School Girls Basketball Game at the Oral Roberts University Mabee Center. She got to start and scored just six points. But they were big, consisting of a pair of 3-point baskets. She also made her share of contributions in blocking.
Carl Albert State College Assistant Softball Coach Megan Young will give softball lessons at $25 per hour to girls up through age 18.

The 2012 Poteau Quarterback Club Youth Football Camp will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday through Wednesday at Costner Stadium.
Last Friday afternoon, my son, Jacques, and I went to Poteau Theater to see â€śThe Dark Knight Rises.â€ť Johnathan and Nathan Rice were there, and those boys made me sit on the very front row. I haven't sat on the front row at the movie theater since 1996 when I was late for â€śTwisterâ€ť because that was one of the only seats left in the whole theater.
