HEAVENER — It seems appropriate that with all the rain showers LeFlore County experienced this past weekend that a team called the Thunder enjoyed a banner run at the 2012 OK Kids Coach-Pitch Regional Tournament at Blues Park.
The Heavener Thunder went through undefeated to win the regional tournament as they routed the Stilwell Warriors 17-4 in four innings in Sunday afternoon's title game. The game was to have been played on Saturday, but the game was rained out and rescheduled for Sunday afternoon.
PANAMA — The Poteau Outlaws OK Kids Midgets baseball team got to the title game of the 2012 Regional Tournament Saturday afternoon at Willie Darneal Field, but the bad news was they ran into the Stilwell Indians.
The Indians pulled away late to down the Outlaws 10-0 in five innings to win the title, and make this week's state tournament in Elk City.
The Outlaws reached the title game with a 6-1 win over the Asher Indians, then outlasted the host Panama Boomers 15-13 on Friday.
A woman is recovering after her boyfriend allegedly stabbed her at a Heavener motel. According to the Heavener Pol ice Department, officers were dispatched to the Crane Motel July 1 after they received reports of a stabbing. When they arrived they found the victim, Tammie Jelks and two juvenile males at the motel who claimed Jelks boyfriend, Gregory Alan Andrews, 41, of Fort Smith, had stabbed her during an argument. Statements from the victim and witnesses claim an argument between Jelks and Andrews began over money.
