Former Pocola Police Chief Dale Fout filed a civil lawsuit against the Town of Pocola Thursday citing wrongful termination.
Fout, who claims to have been in a contractual employment agreement claims to have been wrongfully terminated after he filed a discrimination lawsuit against the town.
Fout is seeking judgment in the amount of $75,000 from the town and trustees Gaylon Freeman, Jewel Clark and Preston Carter.
A Talihina woman was charged with first degree burglary after she allegedly entered a home and took money.
Kacie Danielle Curnutt, 27, of Talihina, is accused of entering a home while it was occupied and taking money out of Ashley Grammar's wallet.
A juvenile at the home told police she hid outside when Curnutt went inside uninvited because she was scared of her.
A warrant has been issued for Curnutt.
Georgia “Jackie” Holliday, 74, of Talihina died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, in Talihina.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Cupco Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Laura-McGee Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Eunice Irene (Camp) Turman died peacefully after a long illness on Aug. 31, 2012.
Bertha Eubank, 61, of Spiro died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
Darren Wayne Adkins, 26, Spiro, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Spiro Assembly of God with burial in Spiro City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Although the new era of Poteau Pirates football has already started under Greg Werner, their new coach, the realistic beginning will commence at 7:30 p.m. tonight when the Pirates travel to meet the Durant Lions at Paul Laird Field on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
There's nothing more than the Pirates want to do than start out 2012 at 1-0.
“Anytime you start a season, everybody has high hopes,” Werner said. “We want to get it kicked off right, and start the season right.”
BOKOSHE — The 2012 football season will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight for the Bokoshe Tigers as they entertain the Oaks Warriors.
For all intents and purpose, this will indeed be nothing more than a scrimmage for the Tigers. The Tigers did not get to do any scrimmages this preseason. In fact, due to a late start to the school year, they've only been practicing about a week in pads and helmets.
“It's been a slow process,” said Tyler Massey, Bokoshe's second-year coach.
POCOLA — The Pocola Indians saw a heart-breaking end to their 2011 season last year. They lost three of their four final games — all three losses were in games in which they led — which kept them from making the Class 2A playoffs. They don't want that to happen tonight when they travel to meet Tulsa Regent Prep at 7:30 p.m. in Coweta.
