For fans wanting to get a sneak peak of the 2012 Poteau Pirates football team, tonight will be a golden opportunity.
The Pirates will have their Red-White Interteam Scrimmage beginning at 7 p.m. tonight at Costner Stadium. While there will not be a charge to get in, the team and Poteau Pirates Quarterback Club is requesting donations of body wash.
For starters, tonight's scrimmage will get some nerves out of the players' systems.
The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team ran its record to 3-0 on Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Broken Bow Lady Savages.
PARK HILL — After the Heavener Lady Wolves won both games in their Thursday home three-way with Sallisaw and Battiest, it was a rougher day on Friday at the Keys (Park Hill) Festival.
The Lady Wolves lost 5-3 to the Kansas Lady Comets, then fell 7-4 to the Westville Lady Yellowjackets.
It was a fine start to the home season for the Poteau Lady Pirates Thursday afternoon as they run ruled the Pryor Lady Tigers 8-0 in five innings in their home opener.
WHITESBORO — The Wister Lady Wildcats got their first win of the 2012 fall season with a 13-5 victory over the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs Thursday afternoon.
Panama 11, Howe 0; Panama 8, Quinton 4; Quinton 13, Howe 0: In Panama, Panama pitcher Taylor Eaves threw a no-hitter against the Lady Lions. The Lady ’Back senior struck out 10 Howe batters.
In Panama's win over Quinton, the Lady Razorbacks broke a 4-4 tie with Class 2A's sixth-ranked Lady Savages with a four-run fifth inning.
STIGLER — Pocola pitcher Sara Eddins threw a no-hitter as the Lady Indians stayed alive in the Stigler Tournament with a 4-1 win over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs Thursday night.
The other local team trying to stave off elimination, the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets, did so with a 7-5 win over the McCurtain Lady Bulldogs.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs and the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers played in winner's-bracket semifinals Friday night in hopes of meeting each other at 9 a.m. this morning in the winner's-bracket final with a chance to play for the tournament championship at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages baseball team began the fall 2012 season by splitting a pair of games in a home three-way on Thursday.
The Savages doubled the Battiest Panthers 6-3, but lost a heart-breaking 1-0 game to the Crowder Demons.
The 2012 Main Street Matters Golf Tournament was canceled on Friday at Choctaw Country Club.
It has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 24 at Choctaw Country Club.
