WHITESBORO — In a battle of Bulldogs, Whitesboro was able to get past Clayton 12-8 in a Class B District Tournament tune-up for the locals.
Whitesboro jumped out to a 12-0 lead after an inning, and had to hold off some late inning offense by Clayton — which scored eight runs over the final three innings.
Cameron 18, Crowder 1: In Crowder, the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning, which ballooned to 8-0 after two innings.
The ’Jackets put the game away with a 10-run third inning to put the game into run-rule status.
The last time the Panama Razorbacks were home, they had a strong opening half against the Gore Pirates before losing in the season opener Aug. 30 at George Ollie Stadium. The Hogs are hoping for some of that same magic, this time for a full four quarters, on Friday night.
The Razorbacks will open District 2A-6 play at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Wilburton Diggers at George Ollie Stadium.
The Arkoma Mustangs football team didn't get to open its home season last Friday night the way it had hoped. The Mustangs suffered a 56-6 loss to the Maud Tigers, but Mark Weatherton, Arkoma's coach, is quick to point out that his team may have played the best team in District C-4.
The Talihina Golden Tigers football team cannot do any better than it has to this point of the 2012 season, winning all three games — including Thursday night's 28-17 win over the Sallisaw Black Diamonds junior varsity at Sallisaw's Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
Carl Albert State College Assistant Softball Coach Megan Young will give softball lessons at $25 per hour to girls up through age 18.

Ruth Pauline Webb, 93, of Poteau died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, in Poteau. She was born in Spiro Jan. 8, 1919, to John and Lillie Sherfield. She married John “Doc” Webb Aug 10, 1938. She was a homemaker, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie; her beloved husband, Doc; and a precious granddaughter, Christy; and eight brothers and sisters.
Arlene Annett Davidson, 71, of Poteau died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, in Poteau. She was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Shamrock, Texas, to George William and Leona (Henry) Barrett.Â
Arlene was a retired registered nurse, having served as nursing supervisor for Health South in Fort Smith, Ark. She also was the director of Emergency Medical Services at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley “Buck” Davidson, and her parents.
The first Balloonfest 5K walk/run will be held in conjunction with the annual festival but will be held adjacent to the LeFlore County Fairgrounds at the PARC complex.
The race will be held on Oct. 19 and will begin at 5 p.m.
Ricochet rebounds into Poteau Friday, closing out the summer concert series at the Donald W. Reynolds Center amphitheater with their polished brand of high-energy country music.
The Tulsa-based Wanda Watson Band will open the show at 7 p.m., returning to Poteau with a mix of blues, R and B and soul. Ricochet is scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 p.m., according to Reynolds Center Director Candace Martin.
Tickets will be $15 at the gate, $10 for students with a photo I.D., and free for children under 8.
