The Pocola Indians are anxious to get back in the win column after facing two very good teams â€” the Quinton Savages (who beat them 30-14 in their home opener two weeks ago) and the second-ranked Vian Wolverines (who defeated them 68-0 in last week's District 2A-6 opener).
Rick Lang, Pocola's coach, said even in the preseason that Vian was going to be the team to beat in the district. After last week's game, he's even more sure of that.
Robert Swinford was the Week 4 winner of the Poteau Daily Newsâ€™ Pigskin Picks contest.
Swinford successfully picked nine out of 11 winners, tying for first place. He won with the tiebreaker to win the $25 prize.
The contest ballot runs every Saturday during the contest period.
Winners will be announced weekly on the Pigskin Picks page.Entries for this week's contest must be in by 5 p.m. this afternoon.

After a great year, Bob Denton and Jason Roberts won the 2012 LeFlore County Bass Club's Team of the Year Award. They beat out 34 other teams, and it's a great accomplishment â€” considering the quality of anglers the club has had over the past few years.
Denton and Roberts hauled in 76.08 pounds of bass this season to earn $500. Andy Nance and Rodney Faulkenberry were second (68.77 pounds, $400), followed by Keith Griffith and Gary Steelman (68.66, $300), Robbie Brassfield and Keith Jones (65.29, $200) and Joey Chitwood and Tony Parker (63.84, $100).

Teresa Huggis, CEO of Stigler Health and Wellness Center has announced that the healthcare providerâ€™s Poteau location will open Monday, October 15.
The new location, across the street from the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in the old medical complex. Huggins stated that remodeling work had finished and workers were busy installing the final pieces of equipment.
Mother Nature was a big winner on softball diamonds where LeFlore County fast-pitch teams were competing in postseason contests.
The Poteau Lady Pirates were tied with the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs at 0-0 with one out in the top of the second inning in the Class 4A District Tournament in Poteau when the rains came. The game will resume at that point at 3 p.m. Friday. Then, Game 2 will follow at about 4:30 p.m. If both teams split, a third game will be needed, but it is not known when that game will take place since it is football night on Friday.
James â€śBootsâ€ť Irvin Benson, 86, of Heavener died Sunday, Sept .23, 2012, in Heavener.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at First Assembly of God church in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.
Elizabeth â€śDeniseâ€ť Rogodzinski, 53, of Poteau died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, in Poteau. Denise was born Oct. 5, 1958 in Clarksville, AR to J.C. and Theresa (Ward) Douglas. She was a retail associate at Walmart for 35 years; and a business owner in Poteau for 13 years.

used to provide artists for

Last Friday night, the Poteau Pirates football team gave it its best shot, but came up short against the Sallisaw Black Diamonds. The Pirate players were disappointed about suffering their first loss of the 2012 season.
â€śI was really upset because I thought we could win the game,â€ť said Derek Francis, senior defensive lineman. â€śIt was a close game, but they pulled it off in the second half. We threw two interceptions, and that's what turned the game around. I was pretty sad because I really wanted (the win).â€ť
The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team will enter this afternoon's Class 4A District Tournament in fine fashion after they run ruled the Westville Lady Yellowjackets 9-1 Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Pirates (27-7) will entertain the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs beginning at 4 p.m. this afternoon in the Class 4A District Tournament. Whoever wins the best-of-3 series will be the district champion, and move on to next week's regional tournament.
