Doyne “Rick” Ruegsegger, 75, of Heavener died Sunday, Dec. 23, in Muskogee.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial in Muse Cemetery.

Clifford Oliver Harris

Clifford Oliver Harris, 94, of Indianapolis, formerly of Monroe, died Monday, December 24, 2012, in Indianapolis.
He was born March 11, 1918, in Monroe, to William Thomas and Ollie Josephine (Pounds) Harris. Clifford was a veteran of the Merchant Marine. He was an aircraft electronic technician for 30 years.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to visit with friends and relatives.

Heavener basketball teams split opening-round games at Bill Frye Invitational

MANSFIELD, Ark. — The Heavener High School basketball teams split their games on opening day of the Bill Frye Invitational.
The Wolves clawed Mulberry, Ark., 64-46 on Thursday afternoon to reach Friday afternoon's championship semifinal against the winner of Thursday's Paris-Hackett winner at 4 p.m. The winner will play for the championship at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will play for third place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Spending Christmas with my family in Branson

Christmas is over and I am in Branson with my family for a little vacation. We are going to see a few shows and let the boys check out the town. I expect that Silver Dollar City will be out as an option because with the cold weather. I am not sure the rides will be open and the boys are all about the rides.

Heavener basketball times at tournament moved back 45 minutes

Due to Christmas Day's snowstorm, the Heavener basketball teams have had their game times on the opening day of the Bill Frye Invitational in Mansfield, Ark., moved back 45 minutes.
Both teams will play Mulberry, with the girls playing at 1:45 p.m. and the boys at 3:15 p.m.
It's not certain if the final two days of the event will have new games times. At this point, the Friday and Saturday games will tip off at the scheduled times.

Heavener, Spiro football players make All-District 3A-8 Team

The Heavener Wolves had their second five-win football season and the Spiro Bulldogs returned to the Class 3A playoffs this past football season. Several players from each team were honored by being named to the All-District 3A-8 Team.
Heavener’s Blake Smittle, who led Class 3A in rushing, and Spiro’s Jermaine Jimmerson each were named to the team as running backs.
As for offensive linemen, Heavener’s Arron Turner and Spiro’s Jacob Hall and Kelby Fowler made the team.
Heavener’s Jason Muller and Spiro’s Kory Parker made the list of linebackers on the team.

Panama football player named Newcomer of the Year in 2A-6; Several Razorbacks, Pocola Indians make All-District Team

The Panama Razorbacks, who two seasons ago went winless and endured a two-season long 17-game losing streak, made the Class 2A playoffs this past season. One of their players garnered a top individual award from District 2A-6.
Panama’s Andy Burris was named the Newcomer of the Year in District 2A-6. He wasn’t alone as far as being honored by the district as several Razorbacks and Pocola Indians were named to the team.

Talihina QB named MVP of District A-6; Three other Golden Tigers make All-District Team

The Talihina Golden Tigers shared the District A-6 title with Savanna, and got to the Class A state quarterfinals this past season.
Four Talihina players were honored by the district, which announced its All-District Team recently.
Talihina quarterback Clark Austin was named the District A-6 Most Valuable Player.
Trevor Crone was the Receiver of the Year, Caleb Sharp was Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year and Alan Lockhart was the Newcomer of the Year.
