Slow-pitch County Tournament going on this week at PARC — WITH UPDATED SCHEDULES

If last week's LeFlore County Baseball Tournament was not enough for you, there's good news.
The 2012 Slow-Pitch County Tournament started Monday at the Poteau Area Recreational Area and will end on Thursday. If you want to see the diamond dolls of the county in one place, here's your chance!

Now that the 2012 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament is complete, Spiro Coach Paul Croft did want to make sure that all fans were aware of why the tournament took place in Spiro and not Arkoma — which was the host school.

It takes two title games, but Wister gets past Spiro to win tournament; Wister's Crane named MVP; Pocola Indians claim third place

SPIRO — It took every game slated in the 2012 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament to decide the champion this year, but the Wister Wildcats were able to dethrone the Spiro Bulldogs.
After the ‘Dogs forced the second title game with a 9-4 win Friday night, the ’Cats came back to win the winner-take-all contest Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-3.
The Bulldogs, who suffered a 7-5 loss to Wister in Thursday night's winner's-bracket final, reached the championship round with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Pocola Indians on Friday. The Indians finished third.

ATOKA — The Talihina Golden Tigers came in second in this past weekend's Atoka Tournament. The Golden Tigers lost 7-2 to Asher in Saturday's title game.
Talihina got two wins on Friday, beating Atoka 11-3 and the McAlester junior varsity 10-7 to reach the title game.
Whitesboro 8, Buffalo Valley 7: Friday afternoon in Whitesboro, Quintin Ludlow's RBI single in the eighth inning lifted the Bulldogs to victory.

Carl Albert baseball team splits four-game series with Western

While the beginning of the four-game, two-day series at Ival Goodman Field with the Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers was not to the Carl Albert State College baseball team's liking, the end sure was.
The Vikings ended the four-game series with a doubleheader sweep of the Pioneers by scores of 4-3 and 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
However, the series began with a Western sweep on Friday afternoon by scores of 3-1 and 10-0.

Poteau boys soccer team third, Lady Pirates fourth at Greenwood Tournament

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates soccer team placed third at last weekend's Greenwood Tournament, after winning it a season ago. The Pirates went 2-1 in the tournament, beating two Arkansas teams — Mena (3-0) and Van Buren (2-1 in sudden death overtime), but losing to Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside 2-1.
The Lady Pirates were fourth. The Lady Pirates won their first game of the season with a 1-0 win over Northside in a game decided by a shootout, but Poteau suffered losses to Van Buren (2-0) and Mena (1-0).

Heavener boys soccer team stuns Fort Gibson, but Lady Wolves fall

FORT GIBSON — When the Fort Gibson Tigers beat the Poteau Pirates on March 30, that win put the Tigers into the driver's seat for the district title. But along came the Heavener Wolves.
The Wolves pulled a shocker on the Tigers and defeated them 3-2 in a shootout Friday night.
The Lady Tigers earned a split for Fort Gibson with a 5-0 victory over the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves will return to action in a road district game at 6 p.m. tonight at Keys (Park Hill).
The Wolves won't return to action until their home district contest against Westville at 7 p.m. Friday at Harvey Stadium.

Fort Smith woman found slain near Fort Coffee

A murder investigation is ongoing in LeFlore County after a Fort Smith woman was found dead inside her car Monday morning.
According to LeFlore County Sheriff Bruce Curnutt, the department received a call about a possible homicide at 3:46 a.m. Monday morning after a passerby stopped to check on a vehicle parked in the middle of McGinnis Lane near Fort Coffee.

Wister boys reach championship game; Spiro, Pocola other teams remaining — If game forced by Spiro, which beats Wister Friday night

SPIRO — On March 26 when the Spiro Bulldogs and the Wister Wildcats met in Wister, it was a pitcher's duel, a 2-0 contest won by the ‘Cats.
When the same two teams met here Thursday night in the winner's-bracket final of the LeFlore County Tournament, there was a little more offense. Unfortunately, however, for the ’Dogs, the outcome was the same.
The Wildcats got a big lead, then survived a potential seventh-inning rally by the Bulldogs to win 7-5.
The ’Cats played Friday night for the tournament title against Spiro, which beat Pocola 2-1 in the loser's-bracket final.

WHITESBORO — Whitesboro pitcher Lauren Harper pitched a no-hitter as the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs blanked the Clayton Lady Bulldogs 15-0 Thursday afternoon.
However, the day ended on a sour note as Buffalo Valley downed Whitesboro 21-7.
In the loss to Buffalo Valley, the Lady Buffaloes amassed 16 hits to five for the Lady Bulldogs. Trailing 3-2 after an inning, Buffalo Valley scored six runs in the second inning for an 8-3 lead.
After Whitesboro cut the deficit to 8-6, Buffalo Valley outscored the Lady Bulldogs 13-1 the rest of the way.
