Glenis Shoemake, 92, of Talihina died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Talihina.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Falfa Baptist Church with Carroll Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in A. L. Stephens Cemetery, Clayton, under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Traci Barnes and other members of the Poteau Area Business Association (PABA) will be on hand tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Buckley Public Library to speak about the upcoming special election on the proposed hotel tax in Poteau. The party has also invited anyone wishing to speak in favor of the tax to come to the meeting as well.
Ruth James, 83, of Colbert died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Colbert.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 5, at Talihina First Baptist Church with Kip Heth and Ollie Heth officiating.Â Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Dewitt Ray Nelson, 49, of Wister died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Wister.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, in Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, with Rev. Leon Glenn officiating, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Lawanna Keirsey, 40, of Sallisaw died Feb. 28, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Flower Hill Pentecostal Church.Â Burial will be at Sallisaw City Cemetery, under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Spiro.
Wesley Doyle Adams, 59, of Spiro died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Edna Lou Walkup, 80, of Howe died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Poteau.
Edna, a lifelong area resident, was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Independence to Calvin and Mary (Fortner) Waymire. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Howe, where she worked in many areas, loving each person who came in contact with her. Edna worked for years in the day care at Heavener First Baptist Church, where she cared for many children from the area.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ewing Waymire, Bob Waymire and Eugene Waymire.
For six LeFlore County high school basketball teams, they each find themselves three wins from an appearance in next week's state tournaments.
The Poteau Lady Pirates (Class 4A), the Spiro Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs (Class 3A), the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers (Class 2A), the Howe Lady Lions (Class 2A) and the Wister Wildcats (Class 2A) will begin what they each hope is a three-game winning streak this week which will culminate with area tournament consolation championships â€” and, more importantly, trips to next week's state tournaments.
It was a good Wednesday afternoon for the Carl Albert State College softball team at home as the Lady Vikings swept a pair of games from Arkansas Baptist by scores of 13-0 in a five-inning, run-rule game in the opener and 8-5 in the nightcap.
The Lady Vikings will entertain Seminole State College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader this afternoon at home.
