February 24, 2012

Carl Albert State College’s newly formed Viking Golf Club is preparing for their first match in March.
The club began last semester when a group of students approached Hank Austin about the possibility of a golf club at CASC. According to Austin, who is the sponsor of the club, he made a proposal to the college and then to Choctaw Country Club’s Board of Directors. Choctaw Country Club has agreed to be the home course, and has generously offered a deal for CASC student golfers to play at the course.

Remembering 'Hoot' Jackson

February 24, 2012

By Jody Adams

Today, I just want to take the time to remember a gentleman who is one of a kind.
James Houston “Hoot” Jackson was born July 1, 1940 and went on to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012.
He was the last great cowboy of his generation, and he told his stories with such enthusiasm.
“Hoot,” you will be dearly missed, and I was proud to call you my friend.
Easy, easy partner — rest in peace, “Hooter”!

Last season, the Class of 2012, who were then juniors, saw its high school basketball season end at the Class 4A Regional Tournament. Now as seniors, they want to make sure that doesn't happen again.
“Hopefully, we can get a win,” said senior forward Marshall Jones, whose Pirates will play Checotah at 3 p.m. this afternoon at the Class 4A Regional Tournament in Roland. “I don't want (this afternoon's) game to be my last game. I really want to get our of regionals. I'm looking forward to this weekend.”
