Poteau Wrestling Club members compete, place at Novice State Tournament in Tulsa

TULSA — Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members competed and placed in the 2012 Novice State Tournament last weekend.
Two members came home with second-place finishes — Dauntay Warren and Parker Rosenburg.
Coming in third were Caden Warren and Rae Hendrix, while Dada Jones and Dakota James were fourth.
Gavin Morgan, Ethan Carey, Grant Ford and Connor Williams were fifth, while Parker Killion was sixth.

The National Wild Turkey Federation LeFlore County Longbeard Banquet will be March 8 at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Though Oklahoma's popular archery hunting seasons for species like deer, black bear and antelope are done for the 2011-12 season, some might say the state is still in the thick of archery season — at least if you are involved with the Oklahoma National Archery in the Schools Program.

Shady Point man files suit over alleged missing knife

A Shady Point man who was
arrested in September for disorderly
conduct and discharging a
firearm in city limits filed a
small claims lawsuit against
several county and municipal
entities after he alleged they
failed to return property to him
after his arrest.
Charley Wayne Covey, Sr.,
65, filed the small claims case
naming the Shady Point Police
Department, the Shady Point
Board of Trustees and the
LeFlore County Detention
Center as defendants in his claim
for financial reimbursement for
lost property.

Carl Albert baseball season begins this afternoon at home

The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team began the season Tuesday afternoon, now it's the Vikings' turn to hit the diamond.
The CASC Vikings will begin the 2012 season in a home doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks junior varsity beginning at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.

Carl Albert basketball teams suffer road losses to Murray State

espite having three double-figure scorers on the night, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 71-59 loss to the Murray State College Lady Aggies Monday night at Gene Robbins Arena.
Behind a 10-point halftime lead, the Murray State Aggies came away with the 74-61 win over the Carl Albert State College Vikings in the second game on Monday night.
The Carl Albert teams will return home Thursday night to face archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. The women's game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m.

ARKOMA — Thanks to a strong second half, the Arkoma Lady Mustangs ended the regular season in fine fashion with a 64-48 win over the Wister Lady Wildcats Monday night at the Arkoma Gym.
Down 23-20 at halftime, the Lady Mustangs opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take a 28-23 lead.
The Lady Wildcats cut the deficit to two points on two occasions, the last time at 45-43 with about four minutes left in the third quarter. But that was as close as Wister got.
Arkoma went on a 15-0 run to take a 58-43 lead with 2:28 remaining in the period.

PANAMA — Just one week ago, the Panama Razorbacks lost 53-34 to the Cameron Yellowjackets at the Cameron Gym. Monday night, the Hogs avenged that loss at the Panama Gym.
Thanks to a strong third quarter, the Razorbacks upset the ’Jackets 59-51.
Trailing 26-20 at halftime, the Hogs outscored the Yellowjackets in the third quarter by 10 points, 23-13 — which gave Panama a 43-39 lead going into the final period.
