Tuesday's High School Boys Basketball Roundup

February 2, 2012

TALIHINA — A strong second-half performance by the Talihina Golden Tigers enabled them to win going away by a score of 61-41 over the Heavener Wolves Tuesday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
Leading 22-21 at halftime, the Golden Tigers outscored the Wolves 39-20 in the second half.
Wister 44, Bokoshe 15: In Wister, the Wildcats jumped out to a 16-1 lead on the Tigers after one period to take charge of the contest.

It is time to give away a 'Beast' — and some more rabbit hunting

The Wister baseball team is selling tickets to a Redhawks game on June 23. It is a part of a deal that will allow them to play in Bricktown Ballpark against the Elgin Owls on March 9. If you want to help out the boys and get tickets to the game, contact me or any of the high school baseball boys for more information.

Opal May Fout

Opal May Fout, 84, of Pocola, formerly of Shady Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark. Opal was born May 17, 1927, in Wewoka to Cecil and Jewel  (Nance) Lassiter. She was a homemaker. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dolin Fout; son, Andy Fout; brother, Lloyd Lassiter; and sisters, Katie Jones and Louise Varner. 

Panama girls, Cameron boys post wins Monday night

CAMERON — In a LeFlore County match-up on the hardwood Monday night at the Cameron Gym, both Panama and Cameron fans had reasons to celebrate.
In the girls' game, the Lady Razorbacks got past the Lady Yellowjackets 29-19, but the host ’Jackets took the boys' contest over the Hogs with a 53-34 victory during Cameron High School's “Pink Out Games.”

TALIHINA — The Talihina Lady Golden Tigers made it a happy homecoming Friday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium. But it didn't come easy.
The Lady Golden Tigers had to rally from a first-quarter deficit, then go into overtime before disposing of the visiting Stigler Lady Panthers 50-40.
Arkoma def. Webbbers Falls: The Lady Warriors forfeited Monday night's game to the Lady Mustangs.

KINTA — For the first time since the opening round of the 2012 LeFlore County Tournament, the Leflore Savages took it on the chin.
Friday night, the Kinta Eagles withstood a late-game rally by the Savages to post a 74-49 victory.
Arkoma def. Webbers Falls: The Warriors forfeited Monday night's game to the Mustangs.

Western Oklahoma State sweeps basketball twinbill from Carl Albert Monday night

Despite the score being tied at 15-15 at halftime, the Western Oklahoma State College Lady Pioneers were able to outscore the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings by 10 points in the second half to come away with a 49-39 win in the first game on Monday night's Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference contest in Altus.
Too many turnovers for the Vikings proved to be the difference in a 74-50 win for the Pioneers in Monday night's OCAC nightcap.

Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members compete, place in three different weekend tournaments

The Poteau Youth Wrestling Club had lots of representation throughout the state last weekend.
Luke Brooks won his weight class title at the Cushing Open.
The majority of the members competed at the Cascia Hall Tournament in Tulsa, where Dauntay Warren claimed gold in his weight class.
At the Cascia Hall Tournament, Bryson Terry, Ross Johnson and Dada Jones were all runners-up, Race Williams was third and Jarrett Lilley and Brandon Hartley were fourth.
