LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages gave their coach, Todd Hackler, a nice birthday present Thursday night with a 49-12 win over the Bokoshe Tigers at the Leflore Gym.
Cameron 57, Gans 45: In Gans, in a game rescheduled from Nov. 18, 2011, due to the Grizzlies being in the Class B football playoffs, the Yellowjackets rallied from a 15-14 first-quarter deficit to get the come-from-behind win. The ’Jackets outscored the Grizzlies 13-8 in the second quarter to take a 27-23 halftime lead. In the second half, Cameron outscored Gans 30-22 to preserve the road victory.

LEFLORE — Thanks to a strong third period, the Bokoshe Lady Tigers were able to keep the Leflore Lady Savages at bay to post a 40-30 win Thursday night at the Leflore Gym.
Arkoma 54, McCurtain 34: In McCurtain, the Lady Mustangs led pretty much from start to finish, jumping out to an 18-11 lead after one period.

NOC-Enid teams sweep Carl Albert Thursday night

Thanks to a four-point lead at halftime and clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch, the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets pulled away from the Carl Albert State College Vikings for a 77-66 Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference win Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Behind 24 points each from Ashlyn Briegge and Marisha Wallace, the 10th-ranked NOC-Enid Lady Jets came away with the 72-54 OCAC win over the Carl Albert Lady Vikings in the first game of the night.

Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.

Four county football players make 'Vype' Three Rivers Football Team

January 28, 2012

Four LeFlore County high school football players were honored by being named to the Three Rivers Oklahoma Football Team by “Vype” magazine.
Spiro's K.J. Booze made the first team defense as a defensive back, while three Poteau Pirates — Wilson Klutts (punting), Jace Pitchford (wide receiver) and Jesse Woodson (defensive back) — made the second team.

Juanita “Jip” Tormey, 80, of Pocola died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pocola. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Pocola.

Eva Caldwell Kirk, 98, formerly of Poteau, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Carolina House, Morehead City, N.C. Born on May 24, 1913, she was a daughter of the late John Edward and Fannie Bone Caldwell.

Wilma Sue Marler

Wilma Sue Marler, 81, Cameron, died Jan. 26, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Oct. 6, 1930, at Washburn, Ark., to Roland Rease and Ocie Bell (Gipson) Francis. Wilma was a homemaker and a retired nursing assistant. For many years she provided a loving home environment for approximately 60 foster children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carrol Cooper, who helped raise her children; five brothers, Gene, Elmer, Velmer, Alford and Orb Francis; a sister, Ernestine Johnson; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Poteau, Talihina wrestlers to be 'home' for Maverick Conference Tournament this weekend; Tournament will be today, Saturday at CASC's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse

While the Poteau Pirates wrestling team is the host team for the 2012 Maverick Conference Tournament, the Pirates won't be at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
This year's tournament will be today and Saturday at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. Action on both days will begin at noon, with the finals slated to start anywhere from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Although CASC will be the site for the two-day event, second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee is glad to be the host team.
