Pocola hoop teams sweep road games at Hartshorne

HARTSHORNE — Christmas came five days early for the Pocola High School basketball teams as they each won their road game Thursday night against Hartshorne.
The Indians handled the Miners 65-48 right after the Lady Indians entered Christmas break with a 50-38 victory over the Lady Miners.

Spiro basketball teams split road games at Muldrow

MULDROW — The Spiro High School basketball teams split their Thursday night road games in a battle of Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs.
LeFlore County’s Bulldogs won the boys game as Spiro got past Muldrow 75-64, but Sequoyah County’s Lady Bulldogs prevailed in the girls contest as Muldrow beat Spiro 67-57.

The entry fee is $10 per player, with no team having more than four players.

Poteau basketball teams suffer losses at Roland

ROLAND — The Poteau High School basketball teams entered the Christmas break on a sour note Thursday night as they both suffered road conference losses to Roland.
The Rangers were too much for the Pirates in posting an 85-52 victory, while the night began with the Lady Rangers defeating the Lady Pirates 61-44.

Poteau wrestlers pin loss on Quinton in home opener

The Poteau Pirates wrestling team finally got a chance to display its talents in front of the home fans Thursday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, and the Pirates did not disapppoint their patrons.
The Pirates came out and dominated the Quinton Savages en route to a 63-8 victory.
The Pirates will be off until 2013 when they will participate in the Cushing Tournament, which will take place Jan. 4-5. However, not too long afterwards is a big triangular with Sallisaw and Wagoner, which will take place 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse to conclude the Class 4A District Duals.

Several PYWC members place at Rogers Rumble in Arkansas; Three members will participate in this weekend’s Collinsville Christmas Classic

ROGERS, Ark. — The Poteau Youth Wrestling Club was well represented, and several medaled, at last weekend’s Rogers Rumble. The organization took 26 wrestlers and placed 19 of them.
Of those 19 placers, three won their respective weight classes — Jack Egbert (Division I), Luke Brooks (Division II) and Walker Snapp (Division IV) — while Wyatt Snapp was runner-up in Division V.
Tyler Simkins and Hagen Rahm were third in Division I, while Gavin Morgan and Braxton Sisco were third in Division II.

Faye Holloway Nebraski, 89, of Poteau died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, in Poteau. Faye was born May 12, 1923 in West Plains, Mo., to Charlie L. and Olive (Lamb) Holloway. She was a homemaker. Faye was a member of the First Christian Church in Poteau. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John “Jiggs” Nebraski; sister, Betty Weir; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Nebraski.

I-35 is narrowed to one lane in each direction at US-64 (Fir St.) in Perry.

US-60 is narrowed near the US-64/US-412 junction in Enid.

I-40 narrowed near Henryetta, Okmulgee and Okfuskee Counties

Poteau girls, Spiro boys get top seeds for LeFlore County Tournament; JH County Tournament play-in games Jan. 4, with all sites set

The Poteau Lady Pirates and the defending boys champions, the Spiro Bulldogs, were named the top seeds for the 2013 LeFlore County Basketball Tournament, which will be Jan. 21-27.
The Lady Pirates are off to a 5-3 start overall, heading into Thursday night's conference road game at Roland, and a 2-0 start to NOAA Conference play.
The other top four seeds are Spiro as No. 2, Talihina — last season's county runners-up — as No. 3 and Panama — the winner of the first-ever Green Valley Conference Tournament last weekend — as No. 4.
