STILWELL — Two NOAA Conference games, two wins for the Poteau Lady Pirates — and convincing victories, at that.
The Lady Pirates had little problem in defeating the Stilwell Lady Indians by a score of 49-29 on Monday night.
The Lady Pirates (5-3, 2-0 in conference play) jumped out to a 10-1 lead after a period to take control of the game. Poteau had a 22-12 lead at halftime.
If the Lady Indians had hopes for a second-half comeback, they were dashed in the third quarter as the Lady Pirates outscored them 14-6 to take a 36-18 lead into the final period.
STILWELL — The Poteau Pirates could not overcome an early deficit as they lost a NOAA Conference game to the homestanding Stilwell Indians by the score of 43-37 on Monday night.
The Pirates fell behind 12-10 after a period to the Indians, who increased their lead to six points, 25-19, at halftime.
The Pirates outscored the Indians 10-6 in the third quarter to cut the deficit back to two points at 31-29 going into the final period.
However, the Indians outscored the Pirates 12-8 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.
Several Poteau High School football players were honored by District 4A-4. Now, a first-year Pirate has received the highest prep honor.
Poteau tight end Jay Werner was named to the East team of the All-State Football Team, which was announced last weekend by the Oklahoma Coaches Association. The All-State Game will be July 26 in Tulsa.
A Wister police officer is facing repercussions after arresting several young adults on alcohol-related charges Thursday night.
According to Wister Chief of Police Randy Liles, officer Jordan Westbrook has been formally reprimanded for violating agency policy when he arrested a large group of people between the ages of 18-21 the night of Dec. 13. Most were students at Carl Albert State College in Poteau.
Westbrook arrested 18 people from the party, charging 16 with minor in possession of alcohol, and two with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Edward “Eddie” Estein, 46, of Howe died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Poteau. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Fawn Louise Morrow, 85, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Heavener died Friday, Dec. 14, in Fort Smith. Services were held Sunday, Dec. 16, at Pinecrest Cemetery, Mena, Ark., under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
Hazel Lucille Richards, 85, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 15. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro.
