Buccaneer Basketball League needs coaches for some of the league's teams. Four coaches are needed for girls teams in the first-second grade division and the fifth-sixth grade division.
Anyone interested in coaching a team needs to contact Billy Bond at (918) 647-1939.

The Stars Basketball Tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Spiro High School Multipurpose Gym.
Entry fee is $125 per team, and there is a three-game guarantee.
The tournament is for boys and girls in grades three through eight.

Talihina welcomes Savanna for District A-6 showdown Friday night

The Super Bowl isn't until the first Sunday in February. However, for the Talihina Golden Tigers football team, its super bowl will be Friday night.
The Golden Tigers (8-0, 4-0 in District A-6) will entertain the Savanna Bulldogs (7-1, 4-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Doc Robinson Stadium in a game which will likely decide the district champion.

Coming off bye week, Bokoshe looks for strong finish to 2013; First up, a Senior Night battle of Tigers with Maud

The Bokoshe Tigers were off last week, and are now ready for their final two games of the regular season.
“We did quite a bit of tackling and hitting drills early last week, and we've taped it off this week,” Bokoshe coach Bryan Murray said. “We did get a chance to go see both teams we are going to play [to end the season]. They played each other, and they're both totally contrasting teams. Maud looks to grind it out on the ground. Southwest Covenant likes to air the thing out — and surprise you by running the ball.”

Arkoma Mustangs using Friday night's game as tune-up for next week's Webbers Falls contest

With the biggest game for the Arkoma Mustangs football team coming up on Nov. 8 on Senior Night at Mustang Field, the locals are using this Friday night's non-district road game with Wright Christian in Tulsa as a tune-up for that regular-season finale.

Former Lynch students invited to library grand opening

With the grand opening of the Patrick Lynch Public Library drawing near, the Friends of the PLPL are reaching out to all former students of Patrick Lynch for a special dedication.
According to the Friends, Lynch's former Poteau Primary School third-grade students now are Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors in area high schools. They, along with the teachers and staff who worked alongside Lynch and the public are invited to attend the grand opening on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 3-5 p.m. at the library located at 206 S. McKenna in Poteau.

Adopt-An-Angel application deadline on Friday

Friday is the last day LeFlore County Youth Services Inc. will accepting Adopt-An-Angel applications for this holiday season, according to Terri Krebs, executive director.
The Angel Tree Program helps around 900 or more county children receive Christmas gifts each year through donations from supporters.
The program is open to LeFlore County residents whose children will not be receiving gifts by any other means. When applying, please bring your ID, an income verification statement and your child’s information including Social Security number.

Sheriff's Office to host coloring contest

The LeFlore County Sheriff's Department is calling to all Kindergarten and preschool students to grab their crayons or markers and enter the departments coloring contest.
All LeFlore County schools are encouraged to participate.
The contest began Monday and all submissions must be turned in by Nov. 15. To pick up the official coloring page, contact the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department at (918) 647-2317 or visit them at 100 S. Broadway in Poteau at the LeFlore County Courthouse.

Poteau runner wins regional title; Lady Pirate duo regional medalists; Lady Pirates team, Pirate runner qualify for next weekend's Class 4A State Meet

TULSA — The name's Bond ... Deven Bond.
Bond, one of four Poteau Lady Pirate cross country runners, won the Class 4A Regional Meet on Saturday afternoon at Oral Roberts University. She ran the two-mile course in 13:11.63.
The Lady Pirates had two regional medalists as fellow senior Haley Griggs was eighth (13:33.76).
The good news was the entire Poteau girls team made state as they finished fourth with 118 points, finishing behind regional champion Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (53 points), Tulsa Metro Christian (72) and Vinita (104).

OU makes plays to beat Texas Tech for a very happy homecoming

NORMAN — The Oklahoma Sooners football team did what it had to do to make it a happy homecoming in this past weekend's home game against Texas Tech on a rainy, damp Saturday at Owen Field.
The Sooners had to come back twice, including withstanding a 17-point barrage by the Red Raiders in about a 5:30 span of the third quarter, to down the Red Raiders 38-30.
