TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers won their Class A second-round playoff game with a 46-26 win over the Hominy Bucks on Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
The Golden Tigers (12-0) will have to wait until today to find out their Class A quarterfinal opponent. They will play the winner of today's Cashion-Okeene game, which was postponed Friday night due to inclement weather in Okeene — located about 45 miles southwest of Enid.
SHATTUCK — The Class C playoff run for the Arkoma Mustangs came to an end as they suffered a 62-14 loss to the fourth-ranked Shattuck Indians Friday night in the state quarterfinals.
The Mustangs end their Cinderella run at 7-4.
WILBURTON — The Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers finished the game on a decisive 16-0 run and were 18-of-37 on 3-point baskets which proved to be the difference for them in their 98-80 win over the Carl Albert State College Vikings in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener Thursday night at Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
An 18-8 game-ending run proved to be the difference for the Lady Mountaineers in their 75-60 win over the Lady Vikings in Thursday night's first contest.
It is pretty much a consensus that Friday night's Class 4A state quarterfinal victory for the Poteau Pirates over the defending state champion Clinton Red Tornadoes is perhaps the biggest win the Pirates have ever had on the hallowed grounds of Costner Stadium. The Poteau Pirates in all reality dominated the Red Tornadoes. Poteau kicked a 20-yard field goal with four seconds left in the game for a 10-7 win to put the Pirates in the Final Four against the winner of today's Oologah-Oklahoma City Douglas winner in next week's state semifinals.
