A Spiro man has been arrested after a warrant for his arrest was issued for assault and battery by means likely to produce death and kidnapping.
Elec E. Cusick, 39, of Spiro, was found unconscious in the front yard of a home on Stewart Loop Monday night along with his girlfriend, Myrtle Cooper, 47, of Spiro.
The two were found after their home caught fire. According to the affidavit, Cooper suffered burns and lacerations along with facial and skull fractures.
TALIHINA — It will be a rematch of last season’s title tonight at the Spiro High School gym when the 81st LeFlore County Tournament comes to a close.
The Spiro Bulldogs, last season’s county champions, handled the Heavener Wolves 62-48 in one championship semifinal on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
Last year’s runners-up, the Poteau Pirates, got past the Talihina Golden Tigers 40-38 in the other semifinal.
The Bulldogs and the Pirates will meet at 8 p.m. Saturday in Spiro for the title.
WISTER — The first teams to claim some hardware in the 81st LeFlore County Tournament did so on Thursday at the Wister High School gym.
The tournament-host Wister Wildcats and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers won their consolation championship contests. Wister’s boys downed the Arkoma Mustangs 68-55, while Bokoshe’s girls handled the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs 52-30.
Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members did well last weekend in tournaments.
The club had 14 members participate in the Locust Grove Tournament, with 11 of them placing.
Of those 11, five of them, Ethan Carey, Zane Hendrix, Jarrett Lilley, Jarrod Vineyard and Luke Brooke, placed first.
Race Williams and Bryson Terry were runners-up, while Rae Hendrix and Remington Reed were third.
Dakota James and James Moss were fourth.
Drew Moro, Hayden Moro and Jack Egbert participated but did not medal.

Y'all need to start getting ready. Super Bowl XLVII Weekend is nearing, and you know what that means.
It means the 20th annual He-Man Punt, Pass and Kick Competition will take place at noon Feb. 3 at “The Jody Ray Sports Complex,” located at 306 Strip Pit Road. The cost is $5 per person.
As country singer Jim Reeves sang, “This is It.” This is going to be the last one because I'm going to retire afterwards.
